Because I am a sheep.

What Is Your Battle Cry?

Stalking out of the plains, attacking with a meaty axe, cometh Priscellie! And she gives a vengeful roar:

"I'm seriously going to punch you into the fourth dimension!!"

For serious, you guys.

And BAHAHAHAHA!

"Mmmhmm, Abe the Babe... maybe not babelike in the traditional sense (he was definitely tall and dark, if not classically "handsome") but a mind that was hotter than Georgia asphalt. You could ask him anything, and he would probably know the answer, which could be very convenient. Abe was pretty reserved -- not so great with the romantic stuff, and he'd probably run and hide if you ever said "listen, we need to have a talk". But his waters ran deep, possibly deeper than any other president. Maybe even than any other mortal. Ever. And we suspect that as long as you were gentle and non-judgmental with him, he'd totally open up to you. And when he did, and you saw the true contents of his heart, your mind would be BLOWN."

So! Last week!

1. Kristin finished her paaaaaaaainting, and it's awesome! Clickyclicky! Bask in the pretteh!

2. Jimmy's friend canceled on him at the last minute and I got to go to see Save the World with him, which was cute and inventive! Lots of great dialogue. They managed to do a lot with a very low budget. (And no, contrary to what the article says, Jossverse hat-trick Jonathan Woodward was alas not a part of the cast. His replacement was quite good, though.) Thank you, Jimmy!

3. Last night, who would come to my roommate's dinner but IANA. Iana was an exchange student from Bulgaria who was in several of my classes, participated in JETS, and ended up staying with my family over the first half of Christmas break. I knew she went to Amherst undergrad, but we never really kept in touch after she went home. Turns out it was my roommate's family that she spent the second half of Christmas break with, and they did keep in touch! Now she's working here in Manhattan at an investment banking firm. Man, what is it about New York that calls forth all the Hockadaisies?

4. Friday, I finally brought my TV!Bob drawing off the back burner and up to the forefront of my list of priorities! I started it waaaaay back in July as a prize for the Save Harry campaign, but what with the move and the overtime and the new computer, I got a bit derailed. Upon looking at it again on Friday, I was promptly horrified with the quality of the line art, and I spent much of the weekend shifting around proportions in Photoshop or re-drawing the portions that needed it. Today, I'm SO EXCITED about it. This is definitely a piece I'm going to be proud of! I can't wait to (re)start coloring.

Wow, my dream last night was crossover CRACK.

The Dresden TV show was brought back as an animated show, made by Launch (the studio where I work). It was an evil delight to keep the secret from the little fanlets. At the great announcement, I got to hang out with Jim and Shannon and the guys from Flight of the Conchords. Then Jim started writing Torchwood/Firefly crossover scripts for a comic, in which Jack was delighted by Wash and Zoe's healthy sex life.

I blame last night's white bean curry.

There was something unusual about Heath Ledger. For some reason, I would often forget how much I liked him, only remembering when I was actually watching one of his movies. His Teen Beat good looks made me want to lump him in with the other teeny bopper hearthrobs, until I saw him in action and the misconception was removed once again. I only watched a handful of his movies--Ten Things I Hate About You, A Knight's Tale, Cassanova, and Brokeback Mountain--and I was really excited about seeing him in Batman. Every time I saw him, it was like rediscovering something wonderful. He will be missed.

I found myself nodding along with this article. It's worth a read.

A page of art from from the Dresden Files graphic novel has been leaked! And it's preeeeeeeeety. Check it out here!

(Edited to fix link!)

Meanwhile, I somehow failed to mention here that the Dresden Files novelette "Backup," told from Thomas' POV, is going to be illustrated by MIKE MIGNOLA. EEE! Preorder here, but be aware that the blurb contains HUGE spoilers for Blood Rites. Wow, I spend all my time pimping this news in other places that I forget my own blog. :D

JOY! Yesterday marked one year until Bush and his cronies are OUT OF HERE. As long as he's not replaced by a lunatic like Huckabee, I'd say we're in business!

A brief recap:

Testerday, Kristin came over and drew me for her painting class. As I posed, I watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, which I haven't seen since I was ikkle and tiny. Hilaaaaaaarious! Nightmare-inducing, but hilarious. It made me long for more 2D-animated features.

Saturday, we went to Dr. Sketchy's together. This session had an Adams' Family theme, and a splendid time was had by all! I now officially have a Dr. Sketchy's buddy. :D

This past week, I finally was able to sign my two-year contract at work. Yay job!

And that's all I have to say about that.

It was Torchwood, but it was GOOD. Jack was FUN, and I didn't want to dropkick Owen halfway to Raxacoricofallapatorius. Unheard of!

ADDENDUM TO LAST POST: I am an Obama supporter through and through. Not Ron Paul. I guess I didn't make that clear, as a couple people have commented/emailed me about it.

OBAAAAAAAAMA! YES.

Hence the existence of an "Obama is awesomesauce" tag and no tag for Ron Paul.

Project Runway. So... do the judges even remember their prom? You don't want you look cute and young and 17, you want to look mature and elegant. Sweet Pea should have won! The only dresses I would have worn to prom were hers or Chris'. Victorya's = Fug. Well, it's cute, but it's also cheap-looking and unflattering. While it may be a decent choice for a mixer or party, it is NOT appropriate for a prom!

Also, I feel so terribly wicked for thinking this, but even though I loathe Christian and want to slap him in the face whenever I see him, I kind of want him to stay on the show for the time being (though leave well before Bryant Park). Yes, his clothes are often rather interesting--albeit TRAGICALLY 80s--but he makes such a lovely TARGET for the natural drama of competition, and we need someone to mock now that Elisa is gone.

P.S. HAHAHAHA a girl looking for a designer for her prom dress chose Chris' portfolio over Victorya's? OHSNAP!

Some entertaining links for joo:

WOAH. You know that Levi's ad that has the guy struggling to pull up his jeans, then with his jeans comes the entire street, a taxi cab, and a hot girl in a telephone booth? I just saw a variation with the exact same footage, except it's a HOT GUY IN THE BOOTH. And they are cute and gay and Levi's is MADE OF WIN. I am so thrilled with them for doing this. ROCK ON.

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report return tonight, sans writers! Let the madness begin! I'm imagining Stephen with an uproariously ridiculous fake Strike Beard, perhaps in the style of a different famous political leader each time they return from commercial break.

In the meantime, there is hope on the horizon! The WGA and United Artists have agreed to sign an interim deal, allowing striking feature writers to begin work for the studio -- and opening the door for other indies such as the Weinstein Co. and Lionsgate to follow suit.

This should put pressure on other studios to do the same, lest they fall behind. HECK YES.

Some stuff that is cool:

Sneak Preview of Gaiman's delicious stop-motion tale Coraline. Oh, Laika, you are so awesome.

The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down -- a HILARIOUS story that everyone needs to read right now, in which the cast of Who Framed Roger Rabbit must solve the serial murders of CGI characters. Even if you haven't seen the movie in years, the humor and cultural commentary shine through.

The Vienna Vegetable Orchestra. As Mickey said, it brings new meaning to "playing with your food."

Nine Most Badass Bible Verses.

EEE, PRINCE CASPIAN TRAILER! Oooh, the PRETTY!

LifeHacker's 2007 Guide to Free Software and Webapps

JKR finishing Deathly Hallows, and Time: Rowling Answers Ten Questions About Harry

Mental Floss: How to Organize Your Home Library

The Color of Magic poster. I continue to have Major Problems with the casting of both leads (1. TOO OLD, 2. TOO NOT ASIAN), but hopefully it'll be entertaining nonetheless.

*chortles* In more WGA-fallout news: Since the strike began, there has been much speculation about what cable programs might make the move to broadcast television as networks attempt to keep viewers as scripted programming dries up. Psych is moving to NBC (YAY, more viewers = more love! Though apparently this is just the older episodes, because all the advertisements for season 2 say it'll be on USA) and CBS is considering airing a cleaned-up version of the Showtime hit Dexter. Dexter? Cleaned up? BAHAHAHA. The show would be five minutes long! Deb would just be one prolonged BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. Come to think of it, I would pay money to see Cleaned-Up Dexter.

In a similar vein (ha!), "This time there will be Torchwood for everyone as BBC2 will also air a “kid friendly” version cut down to remove any post-watershed worthy scenes." Again, will every episode only be five minutes long?

Space is airing the full two-hour unaired Dresden Files pilot this Saturday at 8 pm. I'm not sure how likely it is that the episode will make it to the US any time soon, so would any of you be able to record it for me? DVD, avi, VHS... all are good! I'd happily reimburse shipping. 1. January: Happy Year of Two James Bond!

Classes: Science and Literature (aka "Classic Sci-Fi Literature and how it was influenced by/how it influenced science and culture and stuff"), Computer Modeling and Animation Applications, Senior Project/Digital Figure Modeling II: Electric Boogaloo, Psychology of Judgments and Decisions, The Parts of CSE 460 I Didn't Finish Last Semester.

I found out I was allergic to stuff I'd been using religiously for some six months to treat an infected ear piercing; the irony gods were rolling on the floor. Experienced much upheaval in my class schedule, but eventually worked everything out. Saw Wicked again on Broadway, which was absolutely extraordinary! Saw the Dresden Files TV show, which was less than extraordinary. Was funny.

  2. February: So the last Harry Potter book is coming out a week after the Order of the Phoenix movie?

Witnessed Ko's awesomeness in an English department play. Put together a Molly costume for New York Comic Con, but was foiled in my wig bleaching and dyeing attempts. Terror over looming computer science assignments began producing physical side effects. NY Comic Con proved to be AWESOME, with much chillage with Jimmy and Joe, plus autographs from Jim Butcher and Paul Blackthorne (who smiled at me somewhat devastatingly, mmm) and lots of compliments on my wig and fake piercings, mostly from people who assumed they were real. Got the DVD of my work on Boz from last summer's internship and preened.

  3. March: The product of 12 1/2 hours in the animation lab can be found in my LJ!

Made an awesome demo reel, but does anybody hire me? Alas. Got White Night a couple weeks in advance, and it was awesome. Got the Summer Knight audio three weeks in advance, and it was awesome as well. Did a guest spot on The Butcher Block, the official Jim Butcher podcast. Wrote fic. Continued to hammer away at academia in general.

  4. April: Oh my god. I just got some absolutely wonderful news that I can't share with anyone.

And that news was that I was made a freaking BETA. Also, my SplatterCon!!! shirt was made official merchandise, and I became the news money for Jim-Butcher.com. Of course, I wasn't able to truly enjoy these windfalls until I hammered my way through the endless assignments my professors stacked up like a sadistic game of Jenga. Relaxed a bit through more fic. Finished senior project, with rocked so hard there are no words.

  5. May: Wow. I don't think I should be allowed to cook when my brain is this slagged out on computer science.

Went kiiiiind of crazy from computer science-related stress. Worth it when I kicked out a 3.72 GPA for the semester, which was my highest at Penn. GOT A JOB! Became News Correspondent for The Butcher Block. Was funny. Drew my now-canon crackship. GRADUATED, avec the awesomeness that is Chungy.

    Road Trip!

Went through Dinosaur National Monument -- invented the Greatest Campfire Dessert Ever, stood At The Corner of Win and Awesome, and met a Graduationsaurus, and went rafting with a couple of guys that wished they were on Mars!

Drove through Park City -- site of the Olympics, but not the site of the awesome zip line we hoped to ride. We ran around in the bobsled tube, however! Stayed in an actual hoteeeeeeel, which was v. nice after sleeping in The Beast, our ginormous tent, several days straight.

Went to Arches -- hiked the Fiery Furnace, which was too cool for words. Took approx 74268 rolls of film!

Mesa Verde -- saw sweet cliff dwellings and sweet museums with stuff from cliff dwellings. My face, however, was less pleased with the situation, as despite my frequent applications of sunblock, it got horribly burned, resulting in much misery. Aloe and moisturizer made it hurt even more.

  6. June: So! Back from the Sappy Lincoln Narratives Road Trip of Win and Awesome, now organizing my hundreds of photographs, attempting to chronicle two and a half weeks of amazement, and packing for New York.

    Road Trip continues!

Four Corners -- was in four states at once! JEEPERS! Took the picture I have fantasized about taking ever since I found out this place existed.

Grand Canyon -- way grander than any canyon I could have imagined in my wildest dreams! Took a further 46823 rolls of film. Bought a cool hat to keep the sun off my face and looked ready to go treasure hunting with Indy. Talked to Dad on the phone, who insisted I visit Antelope Canyon, so I got in the car and raced the setting sun, thinking it only 40 miles away. FALSE. Try 120! You fail, Garmin GPS device! Took some sweet photos and was ultimately glad I did so, though when I finally returned it was to a frantic Renata and Keith, who had reported me as a missing person.

Zion -- Visited accidentally, when Keith thought he was better at reading maps than our GPS. Was SO GLAD HE DID. So much pretty!

Vegas -- Went on a total whim, as it was only like 5 hours away. Went shopping for nice-ish clothes at a thrift store and TRIUMPHED, though Renata somehow lost A Shoe. Chilled with Renata's friends from camp. Stayed at uncle's hotel, and he treated us to tickets to Cirque du Soleil's Ka, which was too amazing to comprehend. I keep looking back through the program I bought and thinking "Dude, did I really see that happen?", and I DID.

Peach Springs/Grand Canyon Caves/Havasupai -- Ate at an awesome restaurant with the most awesome waitress ever, like four times. She gave us free pie! Investigated the Grand Canyon Caves, which were pretty sweet. Was told by the tour guide that they had once been called "Dinosaur Caves" for no legitimate reason except the word "Dinosaur" attracted kidlets like flies to honey, we and had a good laugh at ourselves. Embarked upon the 12-mile walk to Havasupai falls with backpacks heavier than a small child. Walked and walked and walked and walked and arrived in the town and ate dino-shaped chicken nuggets that made me ill and walked and walked and fell asleep on the trail with a mile and a half to go to the falls. Woke with the sun, walked the remaining distance to the falls, GUHed profusely, then promptly turned back and walked and walked and walked and walked, this time pausing to rest approx every five minutes. Keith ran out of water, so Renata and I pitched in with our own supplies. Walked and walked. Keith was struck by heat exhaustion with just over a mile to go, so he and Renata chilled in the shade and I went on for help. The help was utterly unhelpful, and I paid an arm and a leg for small quantities of water and Gatorade. Once reunited, we decided to chill and wait for the sun to set a little more so walking would be easier. Finally made the last mile (briefly interrupting our trek to HEROICALLY STOP A GALLOPING HORSE), took off our shoes, and reveled in my car's AC. I WALKED A FREAKING MARATHON, YOU GUYS. WITH A BACKPACK THAT WEIGHED MORE THAN ME IN THE SEARING HEAT WITH NOT ENOUGH WATER, IN 30 HOURS. Made it back to Peach Springs just in time to be fed by the aforementioned Awesome Waitress. Zoomed off in a homeward direction! Slept in a motel and gloried in the simple decadence of a shower. The next day, felt like 90-year-old men. Drove, drove, drove, drove all the next day. Finally arrived in Dallas around 3AM! WIN!

Also in June: Moved to New York and started job, staying in the plush, vacated apartment of my mom's friend's friend. Sweeeet. Discovered the glory that is the New York Public Library. Sweeeeter. Wrote fic.

  7. July: Oh my god... We're getting closer!

Saw Jonathan Coulton and Vienna Teng in concert, and discovered the ridiculously cute Christina Courtin the the uproariously silly The Petersons. Got sick, the lone symptoms being a terribly sore throat and voice that made me sound like I'd been hit in the neck with a semi when I was four. Moved to The Markle, a Salvation Army-run residence at some point. Perhaps this was in June? MET KAT and her Cool and Awesome Mother! Went to the massive Union Square Barnes and Noble Harry Potter event in awesome Trelawney-garb, and was promptly confused for one of the hired actors playing the professors. Read the book and cried. Finished it before morning. Watched a bunch of pilots and fell in love with Pushing Daisies.

  8. August: Sean Astin is playing Twoflower.

Bought a Mac! Got an apartment, with a girl I've known since I was 4. Fell in love with Flight of the Conchords.

  9. September: ...WTF, they're cutting the deaf sister from Bionic Woman and replacing her with "a hot, hearing, hacker chick"?

Did lots of overtime. Finally started getting in all the furniture I ordered, so I didn't have to live out of suitcases. Decided to dress as Maeve for PhauxCon and started working on the wig and outfit. Met Simon Pegg! Nearly sustained a repetitive stress injury from deadlocking the Maeve wig. Randomly encountered a best friend from 7th grade on the subway! Wrote RR fic and participated in Seasonal Dresden.

  10. October: EEEE! I just found out last night that Terry Pratchett is going to be at the Union Square B&N tonight!

Met Pterry. MET EL! Got ridiculous shoes of awesome. Was named one of three Thematic Consultants for the Dresden Files graphic novel, tipping my Dresden fan friends from "jealous" to "I will set you on fire and assume your identity." Saw Tori Amos! Went to PhauxCon, and spent the weekend chilling with Jim and Shannon Butcher and a lot of wonderful folks I know online. Went to a Halloween bash with Kristin, Courtney, and Ryan. Went to my first Dr. Sketchy's and had a blast! Wrote RR fic. Spent Halloween itself with Jimmy and the Meanies.

  11. November: Hey, boys and ghouls!

Fed picketing writers. Saw Tim Burton and three musical numbers from Sweeney! Went to another Dr. Sketchy's. Got an iPhone! Went home for Thanksgiving. Got v. sick.

  12. December: Your daily EPIC FAIL: Hey, St. Nick: Put down the cookie.

Saw Vienna Teng and Christina Courtin again. Wrote flashfic. The building next door caught fire while I was still at work at 2am, but I was not in danger. Was crazy. Pulled an 80-hour work week. Saw Ko daaaaaaaance! Went home for the first half of my break, then to California to see mah sister and her boy before returning to NY. Totally WON CHRISTMAS, giving the Best Gifts Ever. Brought in the New Year at my work-pal and fellow DMDer Eric's party!

    HAPPY 2008!

On the other hand, I could always just make some. I have to visit the grocery store anyway...
