Daniel Radcliffe mobbed by Elijah fans.

Meanwhile, on ebay: $89.99 and counting for an empty box. Well, not just any empty box, but still. People have too much money.

And because I feel I have to post a lot of links for popular fandoms to compensate for every time I gush about My Fandom That Almost No One Who Reads My Blog Is Familiar With (Which Seriously Needs to Change), The Dresden Files, here's a highly amusing Lost/Harry Potter Crackfic and a very silly post on Buffy ships as various world religions.

And lastly: Sort me!

So, they released the cast list for the TV movie of The Dresden Files. My reaction: Hrrn? Why do we have an attractive Cuban actress playing the cute, Irish, blonde, 5'0" Karrin Murphy, and a petite Irish actress playing the tall, gorgeous Susan Rodriguez? Oh, and Paul Blackthorne is British, though Hugh Laurie proves that this is no insurmountable obstacle to playing an American.

Dresden - Paul Blackthorne
Murphy - Valerie Cruz
Susan - Rebecca McFarland
Morgan - Conrad Coates
Ancient Mai - Elizabeth Thai
Kirmani - Raoul Bhaneja
Bianca - Joanne Kelly

Seeing as how they appear to be changing Harry's name to "Erik" (again, WHY? Are they intimidated by the notion of a wizard named 'Harry'?), I figure there will be a lot in flux. Ah well. Whatever. Regardless of how this turns out, I'll still have the books! *idly waves "James for the voice of Bob" pennant*

There aren't any plans to make a movie out of Wicked, right? Because both times I went to the theatre over break (Rent and Harry Potter), I walked in the doors to hear "Defying Gravity" on MovieTunes. Then, after Harry Potter, they started playing "Popular." Is this some twisted way of promoting Idina Menzel in Rent? Are there fangirls running the music selection? Or is it a secret plot against my sanity? I'm not complaining; it's one of my favourite showtunes. I'm just confused.

Alcohol I have consumed since turning 21:

1. 1 sip white wine -- found it vile.
2. 1 sip frozen margarita -- far preferred the non-alcoholic variety.

I'd be a teetotaler, but I don't even like tea. *toasts with a glass of ice water*

Wow, now that's what I call timing! I watch the first half of Lost, grab breakfast, watch the second half, and as soon as the episode finishes, I look to see how much longer my Veronica Mars download has, only to watch the last three seconds tick past. Absolutely perfect timing.

*scrunches up nose in annoyance*

The internet at home is certainly speedy enough, but I never noticed what a profound difference there was between home and school until now. At school, I could download an episode of Veronica Mars or Lost in the same length of time it takes to watch it. Here, for Veronica Mars, it's already been 7 hours, and it's expecting another 3 to go. Fortunately, Lost is coming along a bit speedier, with only 14 minutes to go!

FYI, for those that read my blog on the LJ syndicated RSS feed ("abeybaby"), I don't get comment notification for those posts. In order to comment, you need to click the permalink at the top of the post, then comment there, at my actual blog. I know it's a hassle and I apologize. Maybe someday I'll see the error of my ways and switch fully to LiveJournal. :D

As of 8:10 this morning, I am now 21, which is just 31 flavors of creepy. I can now drink, rent a car, gamble, and buy a prostitute in Nevada. Though Dan Radcliffe put it best: "It's a big deal turning 16 in England. You can have sex and play the lottery. I couldn't wait to play the lottery!"

Massive love to CHUNGY, who called me from England with the last 80p on her phone card to wish me a Happy Birthday, to MAH ROOMIES (well, roomie and ex-roomies), who left a lovely card for me to find Monday night, to Aaron, Renata, Jume, et all, who gave me birthday comment love. Also, to the Sci-Fi Channel for their Firefly mini-marathon (in my honor, of course), and JJ Abrams and Rob Thomas for giving me the gifts of new episodes of Lost and Veronica Mars. Unfortunately, I will be on an airplane when they air. Tomorrow, I will give thanks for BitTorrent!

*laughs and laughs and laughs and laughs*

I'm sure everyone in the HP fandom (or at least, everyone that travels in the same circles I do) is familiar with Robert Pattinson's inability to not look drunk and/or stoned. This has led to gags about seedy opium dens, manips of Robert as Captain Jack Sparrow, etc.

Well, the brilliance and hilarity just went up another notch. Best fandom collision EVER.

Holy cow! Speaking of Wonderfalls, it's only $19.97 on Amazon right now! That's more than half off! If you haven't seen it yet, now is the perfect time to buy it and check it out. Or if you already own it, buy another set and give it as a gift, or use it to convert the masses!

SCORE! UK TV channel ITV4 has picked up The Inside, meaning that we'll finally be able to see those unaired episodes! Stupid Fox has predictably chosen not to release the half-season on DVD, as Tim Minear's last project, Wonderfalls, was only the top rated DVD on Amazon for a time, and the previous project, Firefly, only sold jaw-dropping numbers of DVD sets and amassed a fan following great enough to fuel a motion picture. What possible benefit could there be to releasing The Inside on DVD?

And after 7 1/2 hours of work today, the torturous filming sessions are at an end! Though I did get a chance to catch up on my outside reading. Over this weekend, I finished (finally) The Big Over Easy (by Jasper Fforde) and Summer Knight (the fourth book in The Dresden Files), and I made a sizeable dent in Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys and Son of a Witch, the sequel to Wicked.

And now, I get to spend my Thanksgiving break reading about the drug war. Feh upon my Poli Sci class.

And in other news, we pretty much have confirmation of R.A.B.'s identity, thanks to multilingual editions of HBP.

From last night's post-GOF discussion, re: Harry and Neville:
A girl: What if in the end, Neville has to kill Harry, the final horcrux?
Me: That would make Neville's "I killed Harry Potter!" foreshadowing!

Just watched Thursday's Smallville. The writers seriously need to lay off the whole "staking" thing. I expected the episode to end with a newly-strengthened Drusilla carrying Fine's body out of the fortress.

Edit: Or for Brooke Nevin to grab an enormous hammer and crush him bones to powder. More consistent with the circumstances of his "death" and all that. *grins*

What the... Madagascar, Robots, and Chicken Little make the longlist for "Best Animated Film" and The Incredibles didn't? What kind of crack is the Academy on? They've obviously been visiting Robert Pattinson's Seedy Opium Den.

... except how The Incredibles came out last year, and it did win "Best Animated Film", and I'm a total spaz. I was just thinking in terms of "Pixar puts out one film a year, and Cars hasn't been released yet, so this year's film must have been The Incredibles." Please ignore me.

Glad to see Wallace and Grommit, Corpse Bride, and Howl's Moving Castle getting nods!

Just got back from Goblet of Fire. OMG BEST HP MOVIE EVER! Part of my enjoyment may have derived from my low expectations, but still. BRILLIANT. The pacing was breakneck and the transitions were choppy, but it was uproariously funny, and althought I knew there was a great deal being left out, it didn't feel like we were missing much. I just hope they don't wreck the Percy storyline in the fifth movie.

I loved:
  • Running commentary from the Weasley twins. You can never have too much of them.
  • Shippers of all flavors, rejoice! Especially Hermione/Krum. Even though the movie was PG-13, I'm shocked and delighted that her comment on Krum's "physicality" made it past the censors. And Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom! Goes to show that just because you're dead doesn't mean you can't be a RANDY SEX KITTEN. Or something. Then:
  • GOOD LORD THE SLASH. Krum and his boyfriend (come on, don't tell me you didn't see it!), Ferret!Malfoy and Crabbe... it was truly a beautiful thing.
  • The tenth Doctor David Tennant as Barty Crouch. He and Brendan Gleeson as Moody were fantastic. I loved the tongue thing. Also, a friend pointed out that the two main times we see Crouch Jr is at the World Cup, surrounded by tents that are small on the outside and enormous on the inside, and in his office with the chest, which is also small on the outside and huge on the inside. TARDIS, anyone?
  • Mr. Weasley, Mr. Crouch, and Cedric alighting from the portkey. That visual kills me DEAD. I was still giggling about it ten minutes later, long after the focus had shifted.
  • Krum's totally perplexed look, especially when he's flying in front of that giant screen thing. He looks so confused!
  • Krum's harem at the lake. DIED laughing. Mmm, fangirls.
  • Flitwick crowd surfing! Male Weird Sisters! Neville dancing!
  • I want one of those "Support Cedric Diggory" badges. I wish magic was real.
  • Voldemort was SPOT-ON. I loved all the unearthly magic whispies and his rebirth. WOW. And the Priori Incantatem was awesome! If only someone had explained for the benefit of the illiterate what "priori incantatem" was. :D

    I disliked:
  • Gambon's Dumbledore. The only thing that felt remotely like my Dumbledore was the comment about once setting fire to the curtains. This Dumbledore wasn't even remotely mentor-ish, and was overly aggressive, unsympathetic, and without a hint of whimsy. I didn't feel like there was any kind of connection between Harry and Dumbledore.
  • They glossed over Neville's parents. We had that big setup with the Unforgivable Curses class, then a bizarrely anticlimactic payoff with the pensieve. Neville was never singled out in the book to watch the Cruciatus curse. That was just evil, plain and simple. In the book, Moody was actually quite kind to Neville. Also, it's interesting that they chose to pronounce it "pen-SEEV", rather than live "pensive." I guess they just want to emphasize the pun, even though "sieve" is pronounced like "pensive."
  • Snape as comic relief? The study hall bit was fun, but where's the moral ambiguity? Even after Harry learns Snape was a Death Eater, we don't see any difference in the way Harry reacts to Snape. Our only insight into Snape is his "kicking booty and taking names" treatment of Barty Crouch Jr.

Three cheers for Mike Newell and his cast of violent, dirty, corrupt anarchists!

And I know the show has some pretty devoted followers, but would people shell out $15 a month to watch a few extra minutes of unnamed cast member screentime? Someone's got delusions of grandeur, cough Disney cough.

Just finished the audiobook of Grave Peril, the third book in Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files." According to the website I preordered it from, it wasn't supposed to ship until December 1st. Well, it and book #2, Fool Moon, arrived Monday morning!

    [earlier this week]
    Me: *bleeds* Bite me, Universe.
God: Here, have the second and third "Dresden Files" audiobooks, read aloud by James Marsters.
    Me: Praise Jesus!

Mmm, mp3 CDs. Half-price. I've been listening almost solidly since Monday evening, in all the time I wasn't sleeping, cramming for my Psyc midterm (which I think I ROCKED), or in class. Now I'm off to put a dent in all the other delicious books on my to-read list, or at least until I buy the remaining books in a lump on ebay the Philadelphia library gets ahold of the fourth book in the series.

I'm so glad my fangirlyness led me to discovering these books! Thank goodness for the lovely ladies at Phauxcon, who kept gushing over them. If you're looking for another fandom great book series, consider checking them out. And if you choose to go the audiobook route, so much the better!

(Whee, Veronica Mars in a few minutes!)

Finally, the chance to explain my previous post! Major TMI warning!

Saturday night, I went to the hospital for what turned out to be a urinary tract infection. This was my first, and if you've never had one, it's easily my most painful experience in memory. I was constantly having to use the restroom, but the act felt like I was being stabbed. There was also a rather significant amount of blood in my urine, and Priscilla and the Sight of Blood do not mix well, especially when it is her own.

I ended up staying at the hospital for almost four hours, due to the general craziness of the ER on a Saturday night and my unlucky habit of being in the bathroom whenever a doctor came by to look in on me. Ko wins the Best Roommate Ever prize for skipping her cast party to keep me company and to prevent me from freaking out. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania wins the Most Astute Method of Treating a Freaked Out Female College Student, assigning me Will the Really Hot Male Nurse Or Perhaps Intern and Dustin The Not Quite As Hot As Will But Nonetheless Muffinesque Doctor.

The next morning, I was feeling great. The antibiotic they gave me worked like magic (And Madam Pomfrey isn't nearly as cute as Will). I'm following my antibiotic/painkiller regimen religiously and drinking absurd quantities of water and cranberry juice, and I have a checkup Wednesday morning. All is good in the land of Cellie, with the possible exception of my Psyc midterm tomorrow.

DUDE. I talked to Jill at Aaron's birthday party (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!), and apparently her list of shows for consideration for the Spring Fling musical is essentially a "short list" of some of my favourite musicals. Bat Boy, Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors, (Damn Yankees, which I am unfamilliar with), and possibly Reefer Madness.

Next semester is going to ROCK. And I was worried there might not be any exciting shows next semester!

Read this little minicomic -- it's hilarious. And bonus Firefly reference! Ganked from DeeDee.

Meanwhile, I can't believe I left my Trelawney glasses at home. I knew I'd want to dress up for the movie, and the only other Potter outfit I have is my lame Percy costume (legitimized only by the red Prefect badge and admittedly awesome maroon "P" Weasley sweater). Today is the Potter Preceptorial, and I have no glasses to wear with the rest of my Trelawney costume! Teh woe. I'll just wear my real glasses and show off the pictures of me at the HP6 Midnight party to anyone that comments. :D

Edit: Woah, my own glasses actually look really good with the costume! Not as good as these, but still awesome. I'll have to see if I can borrow Deep's camera. *sob*

Oh, and now that your S.O. is free, he should know that I'm totally available. :D It's annoying that they have to kill off a girl, though, when there aren't enough ladies as is. When is Hurley going to get some sweet lovin'? HURLEY/RANDOM BLONDE CHICK (Sophie?) OTP!

Veronica Mars. This week's episode sponsored by AOL and BlueTooth! She uses AOL? Despite everything, my respect for her just plummeted. XD And I never thought I'd say this last year, but Clarence Weedman WINS EVERYTHING.

    Other random thoughts:
  • I saw the election result coming a mile away.
  • Is it just me, or has Weevil gained weight?
  • Three cheers for VM for having the guts to GO THERE re: class warfare.
  • Joooooooss! And my favourite Top Model girl! I love cameos.
  • MAN. Was tonight's episode one long round of Kick the Logan? Good thing the boy is loaded. It's going to take the entire Echolls family fortune to pay for the enormous amount of therapy he needs.

No way! Not two days ago, I was making some silly comment in another's LJ, and I wanted to use a word that may-or-may-not-be-a-real-word (you know the type) meaning "having to do with dreams". Like "constabulatory" or "arboreal" (though arboreal is definitely a real word. Shut up.)

Anyway, through the great kung fu of Google, I found the word "oneiric", which I immediately declared the coolest word I had heard that day, but in the context I was wanting to use it, I didn't think the definition came across well enough, so I took the comment in a different direction.

Today's Dictionary.com Word of the Day: oneiric.

This reminds me of when I was taking an SAT prep course, and in an entire verbal section, the only word I didn't know was "hedonism." The next day, I was reading Pratchett's Sourcery, and Conina is trying to remember a word beginning with "h". Rincewind guesses "Hedonism?". I immediately cracked up, and all my fellow students--who I was trying to make a good impression on so I wouldn't be friendless, and who already thought I was lame and geekish because I used the word "extrapolate" in cold blood--just stared.

Mmm, "oneiric" and "hedonism". I think the world is telling me to luxuriate and enjoy myself and go back to sleep. Good idea, world.

How come no one told me Kristin Chenoweth is on The West Wing? I watched last night's debate episode, and I was delighted to see her name in the credits. I only finished the fourth season a few days ago, and I knew that the series now is very different from where it was then, but I didn't expect half the cast to be replaced. Feh.

So, thoughts! I do wish our presidential candidates would follow Vinick's lead and actually debate, but I actually preferred the '04 reality. Where was the mind-bending stupidity in the Vinick/Santos debate? (Vinick/Santos? NoTP!) Where were the "You forgot Poland!"s and the "Want some wood?"s or the mysterious suit bulges? Were were the "black or white issues", the "hard work", or the fabled "rumors on the internets"? I miss Candidate!Bush. He's a lot more fun than President Bush.

Anyway, I still haven't decided if I'm going to watch beyond the fourth season. I guess I'll rent the fifth season when it comes out on DVD and see if I can stomach the mangling of Sorkin's characters and storylines, which Ko assures me is dire.

Tonight, I went to two advising events, one for Peer Advisors and the other for the Big/Little Sister system in Women in Computer Science (WICS). At the first event, I ended up getting more advice than I gave. I talked to Norm, who had encouraging things to say about Fluid Dynamics (which we're starting with in my independent study), and Max Mintz (the professor who taught the class voted "Most Difficult Course at Penn" several years running), who had some very cool things to say about Math and the useless way it's presented at most universities.

The second event was at a great Thai restaurant two blocks from my dorm that I didn't know existed. My little sister Becky and I proposed a Mirrormask event, and we're crossing our fingers that they choose it over Chicken Little. I also managed to plug Wonderfalls and Firefly to a fair-sized group, with what looks to be great results! Then I lent the DVD sets to Becky, mwaha! She had something of a geekgasm when she saw all my posters. :D She's a big Gaiman and Pratchett fan, so we will get along swimmingly.

In other news, peanut sauce makes the world beautiful. Discuss.

Both Veronica Mars and Lost are repeats tonight. I say "Humbug!" to the world.

    Musical Interludes for the Day:

A Heap of Trouble -- is it bad that as I walk to class, I march to this tune?

Oooh! Got the poop on the Serenity DVD coming out on December 20th, just in time for Christmas! The cover is kind of hilarious (for starters, doesn't Summer have brown eyes?), but the menu contents and list of deleted scenes make me squeal like a stuck pig, but in a happy way. I wish we had actor commentary in addition to Joss', but I guess not every movie can get the "Lord of the Rings" treatment, with its twenty bajillion audio commentary tracks, including insight from Norma and Pete, the production team's trained dingoes. :D

Feeling particularly nostalgic for LotR, as I listened to Dom's commentary for "The Moth" this afternoon. I kept waiting for Billy to chime in and make some joke about fish.
