Meanwhile, on ebay: $89.99 and counting for an empty box. Well, not just any empty box, but still. People have too much money. And because I feel I have to post a lot of links for popular fandoms to compensate for every time I gush about My Fandom That Almost No One Who Reads My Blog Is Familiar With (Which Seriously Needs to Change), The Dresden Files, here's a highly amusing Lost/Harry Potter Crackfic and a very silly post on Buffy ships as various world religions. And lastly: Sort me! Priscilla said at 9:26 AM So, they released the cast list for the TV movie of The Dresden Files. My reaction: Hrrn? Why do we have an attractive Cuban actress playing the cute, Irish, blonde, 5'0" Karrin Murphy, and a petite Irish actress playing the tall, gorgeous Susan Rodriguez? Oh, and Paul Blackthorne is British, though Hugh Laurie proves that this is no insurmountable obstacle to playing an American.

There aren't any plans to make a movie out of Wicked, right? Because both times I went to the theatre over break (Rent and Harry Potter), I walked in the doors to hear "Defying Gravity" on MovieTunes. Then, after Harry Potter, they started playing "Popular." Is this some twisted way of promoting Idina Menzel in Rent? Are there fangirls running the music selection? Or is it a secret plot against my sanity? I'm not complaining; it's one of my favourite showtunes. I'm just confused.

Wow, now that's what I call timing! I watch the first half of Lost, grab breakfast, watch the second half, and as soon as the episode finishes, I look to see how much longer my Veronica Mars download has, only to watch the last three seconds tick past. Absolutely perfect timing.

At school, I could download an episode of Veronica Mars or Lost in the same length of time it takes to watch it. I'm sure everyone in the HP fandom (or at least, everyone that travels in the same circles I do) is familiar with Robert Pattinson's inability to not look drunk and/or stoned. This has led to gags about seedy opium dens, manips of Robert as Captain Jack Sparrow, etc. Well, the brilliance and hilarity just went up another notch. Best fandom collision EVER. Stupid Fox has predictably chosen not to release the half-season on DVD, as Tim Minear's last project, Wonderfalls, was only the top rated DVD on Amazon for a time, and the previous project, Firefly, only sold jaw-dropping numbers of DVD sets and amassed a fan following great enough to fuel a motion picture. What possible benefit could there be to releasing The Inside on DVD?

I can't believe I'm turning 21 this Wednesday. That just isn't right.
(Though I will use this opportunity to pimp my Amazon wishlist. Just because I'm turning 21 doesn't mean I have to ignore my inner 6-year-old.) Priscilla said at 11:27 PM And after 7 1/2 hours of work today, the torturous filming sessions are at an end! Though I did get a chance to catch up on my outside reading. Over this weekend, I finished (finally) The Big Over Easy (by Jasper Fforde) and Summer Knight (the fourth book in The Dresden Files), and I made a sizeable dent in Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys and Son of a Witch, the sequel to Wicked.
And now, I get to spend my Thanksgiving break reading about the drug war. Feh upon my Poli Sci class. Just watched Thursday's Smallville. The writers seriously need to lay off the whole "staking" thing. I expected the episode to end with a newly-strengthened Drusilla carrying Fine's body out of the fortress.

Just got back from Goblet of Fire. OMG BEST HP MOVIE EVER! Part of my enjoyment may have derived from my low expectations, but still. BRILLIANT. The pacing was breakneck and the transitions were choppy, but it was uproariously funny, and althought I knew there was a great deal being left out, it didn't feel like we were missing much. I just hope they don't wreck the Percy storyline in the fifth movie.

Just finished the audiobook of Grave Peril, the third book in Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files." According to the website I preordered it from, it wasn't supposed to ship until December 1st. Well, it and book #2, Fool Moon, arrived Monday morning!
[earlier this week] Me: *bleeds* Bite me, Universe. God: Here, have the second and third "Dresden Files" audiobooks, read aloud by James Marsters. Me: Praise Jesus! Mmm, mp3 CDs. Half-price. I've been listening almost solidly since Monday evening, in all the time I wasn't sleeping, cramming for my Psyc midterm (which I think I ROCKED), or in class. Now I'm off to put a dent in all the other delicious books on my to-read list, or at least until I'm so glad my fangirlyness led me to discovering these books! Finally, the chance to explain my previous post! Major TMI warning!
Saturday night, I went to the hospital for what turned out to be a urinary tract infection. This was my first, and if you've never had one, it's easily my most painful experience in memory. I was constantly having to use the restroom, but the act felt like I was being stabbed. There was also a rather significant amount of blood in my urine, and Priscilla and the Sight of Blood do not mix well, especially when it is her own. I ended up staying at the hospital for almost four hours, due to the general craziness of the ER on a Saturday night and my unlucky habit of being in the bathroom whenever a doctor came by to look in on me. Ko wins the Best Roommate Ever prize for skipping her cast party to keep me company and to prevent me from freaking out. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania wins the Most Astute Method of Treating a Freaked Out Female College Student, assigning me Will the Really Hot Male Nurse Or Perhaps Intern and Dustin The Not Quite As Hot As Will But Nonetheless Muffinesque Doctor. The next morning, I was feeling great. The antibiotic they gave me worked like magic (And Madam Pomfrey isn't nearly as cute as Will). I'm following my antibiotic/painkiller regimen religiously and drinking absurd quantities of water and cranberry juice, and I have a checkup Wednesday morning. All is good in the land of Cellie, with the possible exception of my Psyc midterm tomorrow. Priscilla said at 1:18 PM

DUDE. I talked to Jill at Aaron's birthday party (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!), and apparently her list of shows for consideration for the Spring Fling musical is essentially a "short list" of some of my favourite musicals. Bat Boy, Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors, (Damn Yankees, which I am unfamilliar with), and possibly Reefer Madness.

I knew I'd want to dress up for the movie, and the only other Potter outfit I have is my lame Percy costume (legitimized only by the red Prefect badge and admittedly awesome maroon "P" Weasley sweater). Today is the Potter Preceptorial, and I have no glasses to wear with the rest of my Trelawney costume! Teh woe. I'll just wear my real glasses and show off the pictures of me at the HP6 Midnight party to anyone that comments. :D Edit: Woah, my own glasses actually look really good with the costume! Not two days ago, I was making some silly comment in another's LJ, and I wanted to use a word that may-or-may-not-be-a-real-word (you know the type) meaning "having to do with dreams". Like "constabulatory" or "arboreal" (though arboreal is definitely a real word. Shut up.)
Anyway, through the great kung fu of Google, I found the word "oneiric", which I immediately declared the coolest word I had heard that day, but in the context I was wanting to use it, I didn't think the definition came across well enough, so I took the comment in a different direction. Today's Dictionary.com Word of the Day: oneiric. This reminds me of when I was taking an SAT prep course, and in an entire verbal section, the only word I didn't know was "hedonism." The next day, I was reading Pratchett's Sourcery, and Conina is trying to remember a word beginning with "h". Rincewind guesses "Hedonism?". I immediately cracked up, and all my fellow students--who I was trying to make a good impression on so I wouldn't be friendless, and who already thought I was lame and geekish because I used the word "extrapolate" in cold blood--just stared. Mmm, "oneiric" and "hedonism". I think the world is telling me to luxuriate and enjoy myself and go back to sleep. Good idea, world. I only finished the fourth season a few days ago, and I knew that the series now is very different from where it was then, but I didn't expect half the cast to be replaced. Feh.
So, thoughts! I do wish our presidential candidates would follow Vinick's lead and actually debate, but I actually preferred the '04 reality. Where was the mind-bending stupidity in the Vinick/Santos debate? (Vinick/Santos? NoTP!) Where were the "You forgot Poland!"s and the "Want some wood?"s or the mysterious suit bulges? Were were the "black or white issues", the "hard work", or the fabled "rumors on the internets"? I miss Candidate!Bush. He's a lot more fun than President Bush. Anyway, I still haven't decided if I'm going to watch beyond the fourth season. Tonight, I went to two advising events, one for Peer Advisors and the other for the Big/Little Sister system in Women in Computer Science (WICS). At the first event, I ended up getting more advice than I gave. I talked to Norm, who had encouraging things to say about Fluid Dynamics (which we're starting with in my independent study), and Max Mintz (the professor who taught the class voted "Most Difficult Course at Penn" several years running), who had some very cool things to say about Math and the useless way it's presented at most universities.
The second event was at a great Thai restaurant two blocks from my dorm that I didn't know existed. My little sister Becky and I proposed a Mirrormask event, and we're crossing our fingers that they choose it over Chicken Little. I also managed to plug Wonderfalls and Firefly to a fair-sized group, with what looks to be great results! Then I lent the DVD sets to Becky, mwaha! She had something of a geekgasm when she saw all my posters. :D She's a big Gaiman and Pratchett fan, so we will get along swimmingly. In other news, peanut sauce makes the world beautiful. Discuss. Got the poop on the Serenity DVD coming out on December 20th, just in time for Christmas! The cover is kind of hilarious (for starters, doesn't Summer have brown eyes?), but the menu contents and list of deleted scenes make me squeal like a stuck pig, but in a happy way. I wish we had actor commentary in addition to Joss', but I guess not every movie can get the "Lord of the Rings" treatment, with its twenty bajillion audio commentary tracks, including insight from Norma and Pete, the production team's trained dingoes. :D
