GAK. I just started looking through my photography files from last year, looking to see if I had any printed images that I wanted to scan. I came across my mountains of negatives from my trip to New York and the Eastern State Pennitentiary, and I died of love all over again. I WANT TO GO INTO THE DARKROOM RIGHT NOW AND PRINT UNTIL I AM WRINKLED AND PRUNELIKE AND OLD AND DEAD. And there are so many negatives from last summer! Gah!

I wonder if Becky Young would let me use the darkroom from time to time... I'd be willing to pay a darkroom fee. Hmm. Of course, everything is going to be pretty crazy until Christmas break with more midterms, then exams, and final projects and such. I'll have plenty of time to print over the holidays, I guess.

A girl cannot survive on digital photography alone.

Fannish Friday Five:

1) What fandoms are you in that you are truly grateful for, and why?
Harry Potter, without question. Not only did I meet the vast majority of my friends through HP, but through an HP website, I discovered Kell, which got me interested in CG. No other fandom has been this life-changing. Heck, my CGs got me into Penn. The HP fandom didn't just open a door for me, they demolished the entire wall. And SO MANY WONDERFUL PEOPLE!! Gah, I'd never be able to do one of those "Who am I thankful for" memes, because there are so many of you! *adore, adore, adore*

2) What character are you most thankful for having been introduced to? Why?
Tough one. Probably Percy. I love being a part of PINE. We're a rare breed, we are. He's an excellent learning experience, as he's a model for looking beyond appearances and trying to understand someone's motivations. I really hope that the Percy Panel at HP2005 happens! (Who was the one talking about the possibility? *pores through LiveJournal* Ah! Amber!) And my status of being credited as the first person ever to write Percy-centric fanfic is one I will brag about until I die.

3) Are you thankful that the fannish sub community exists? Why?
I'm amused by it's presence, but I wouldn't go so far as to say Thankful. Wait... by "Fannish sub community", you mean the Fannish Friday Five, yes? Not Fandom in general? Yeah, I thought that's what you meant. Okay, s'all good.

4) Is fandom your primary hobby? If not, what is?
Tell me you're joking. You mean there's life beyond fandom? XD

5) Within your fannish life, what are you most grateful for this year?
Nimbus, without question. I will treasure every moment I had with Alicey and Maggie and the rest of the gang. And I can't wait to see my girls again IN 29 DAYS!!!!!11!

Just saw Billeh Master and Commander with Schlien. Three cheers for platonic warrior-bonds between men! (Hip hip huzzah!) Loved all the worshippage of Lord Horatio Nelson, I must say. I started the movie by singing to myself "Who's your great-great-grandniece? Yes I am!" Not sure how many greats are involved, but my father tells me that we're direct descendants of Lord Nelson's brother. (My maternal paternal great-grandmother was a Nelson. Sadie Nelson. She married a man named Carlson, who ran a merchant ship named the Black Adder. XD Their children were Mildred, Myrtle, (a girl I can't remember), and Priscilla. My namesake, hurrah! Then Mildred named her son (my dad) Nelson, and he named his daughter Nelson. How thoughtful.)

So yeah.

Marcelina and I ate gelato afterwards and squeed over Billeh, the Doctor, and other assorted glees of the film. In really bad French. I began to notice a trend, however: Why do all my beloved doctors get shot? (Stephen, Simon) Why do my beloved all wear stripey pants? (Billeh, Kurt)

Mmm, it's a puzzlement. And also a puzzlement: was the director speaking DIRECTLY TO ME when, in the first five seconds of the movie, we see a cannon named "Jumping Billy"? "They read my mind!" I whispered to Schlien.

Ah, Billeh. *happysigh*

Gah, this is surreal. I just woke up from my own bed and took a bath. Everything seems so wrong, yet so right. I was only away for three months, compared with the 19 years I've lived in this house, so Home quickly reasserted itself. Now it seems like my entire college experience was just a dream.

Last night, I swooped down and kidnapped Ashley and Mimi at 10:30 and took them out for hot chocolate, which was crazy fun. Nice to see that the only thing that's really changed about me is my sleep schedule.

Priscilla Answers Questions Posed in the Last Meme:

Rebecca: Working on it. There's this peculiar shade of greenish ochre that arises when wintry gusts from the Northeast interact with smog that's being exceptionally stubborn, but other than that, my pallate is pretty much complete. I'm probably running the hidden pine trails of the forest wrong.

Megaloo: Booyeah. Just don't spread the link around, as certain people can probably expect it as a Christmas present.

Allison D.: Erik Erikkson all the way. After hanging around with Tom Tompkins in Jesuit theatre, I've learned that people with unoriginal first names have a lot of pent-up anger. The namesake of a froofy cosmetics line doesn't stand a chance.

Allison L.: I would have to say Pippin, as I haven't seen M&C yet. However, Barrett have to be pretty bloody squeeworthy to out-cute a hobbit.

Renata: At school, I miss the taste of dishes flavored with spices other than garlic. And at home, I'll miss having everything worth going in walking distance.

Ashley: Fandom.

Brenna: 547 1/2

Tanja: Remus and Sirius could give them a run for their thirty pieces of silver, but the timelessness of their relationship would win out in the end.

Hurrah! I forgot to mention that at Zombie Prom, I noticed the name "Wonny Lervisit" on the program under lights crew. Wonny is a Hockaday grad (I had no idea she went to Penn!), so I tracked her down during the Intermission to say hello. Because she remembered me from tech crew in Oklahoma (Sophomore year, before I discovered Jesuit theatre), she suggested that I join a tech crew for a show to get my foot in the door and get to know some of the members of the various theatre companies on campus. If I don't make One Acts, I'll definitely consider crewing. Oklahoma was crazy fun. And I helped out some on set construction for How to Succeed. I definitely wouldn't mind crewing again, especially if it could get me noticed. W00t.

Ah, talking with mum over Second Lunch, I'm reminded of why I quit Art History. Massive packets of reading, in which the point of arguments assembled over five pages is written in Italian. And other assorted hells.

Meanwhile, "Let it Be... Naked" gets ♥♥♥♥ 4 hearts out of 4. How was I not informed about this? I'll probably review later in Sgt. Pepper. Wow, when Renata proposed the idea for a review blog, randomly named after a Beatles song, I never imagined I'd be reviewing a new Beatles album in it. *listens to "Fly on the Wall" and revels in their adoreable voices*

Today in Computer Science, I was struck by the startling realization that my Java professor's accent strongly reminds me of Firefly villain Adlai Niska. I kept imagining him saying "And if you forget the semicolon... your code, not so solid."

Fortunately, he's a really cool professor. He makes Hitchhiker's Guide references in class and puts "Don't Panic" in big, friendly letters on our midterms. So there's no mistaking him for a sadistic, evil, glorified thug. Jolly good.

WOO HOO!!!

::waggles heiney at Conservatives::

Two down, 48 to go!

Mmm, that's good readin':
Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. For those who choose to marry, and for their children, marriage provides an abundance of legal, financial, and social benefits. In return it imposes weighty legal, financial, and social obligations. The question before us is whether, consistent with the Massachusetts Constitution, the Commonwealth may deny the protections, benefits, and obligations conferred by civil marriage to two individuals of the same sex who wish to marry. We conclude that it may not. The Massachusetts Constitution affirms the dignity and equality of all individuals. It forbids the creation of second-class citizens. In reaching our conclusion we have given full deference to the arguments made by the Commonwealth. But it has failed to identify any constitutionally adequate reason for denying civil marriage to same-sex couples. --GOODRIDGE, et al. v. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, et al.

*giggles* My dad just sent this to me. Too funny.
At New York's Kennedy airport today, an individual, later discovered to be a public school teacher, was arrested trying to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, and a calculator.

Attorney General John Ashcroft believes the man is a member of the notorious al-Gebra movement.

He is being charged with carrying weapons of math instruction.

Al-gebra is a very fearsome cult, indeed. They desire average solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on a tangent in a search of absolute value. They consist of quite shadowy figures, with names like "x" and "y", and, although they are frequently referred to as "unknowns", we know they really belong to a common denominator and are part of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country.

As the great Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, there are 3 sides to every angle, and if God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes.

Therefore, I'm extremely grateful that our government has given us a sine that it is intent on protracting us from these math-dogs who are so willing to disintegrate us with calculus disregard. These statistic bastards love to inflict plane on every sphere of influence. Under the circumferences, it's time we differentiated their root, made our point, and drew the line. These weapons of math instruction have the potential to decimal everything in their math on a scalene never before seen unless we become exponents of a Higher Power and begin to factor-in random facts of vertex.

As our Great Leader would say, "Read my ellipse". Here is one principle he is uncertainty of - though they continue to multiply, their days are numbered and the hypotenuse will tighten around their necks.

Dude! Master and Commander is out? BILLEH! Man, could the past few days get any better? The other day, I find that Extended Edition scene, and this evening I find a link to the entirety of Sniper 470. Of course, fate seems to decree that I must be desperate to see my beloved Scotsman. Master and Commander isn't playing at the cushy, sparkly new theatre on 40th where I went to see Kill Bill and The Matrix. Instead, it's only playing at the skanky, rundown theatre on 39th where mum and I saw Men in Black II last year when checking out the campus. Oh well. Billeh is worth it. My mind shall be elevated from my surroundings at the first sign of his accent, and I shall transcend the grime and achieve happiness. Mmm, Billeh.

Curse these thin walls.

I went shopping today! With Rachel and Tricia and Carmen. Tomorrow is the Hill Semiformal (quoi?), and although I had an outfit, none of my friends did, and I've been looking for an excuse to go shopping for some long sleeved shirts, as they have become a staple in my Philadelphia Winter Wardrobe. Three hours later, we randomly walked by my comics store, so I stopped in to see if the fourth issue of 1602 was out yet. It was! So when we all finished shopping after four hours, everyone was more or less happy. And I got chocolate soymilk at Fresh Grocer, so today is officially a Good Day.

Mmm, I'll drink nothing but soy to have comfort and joy. Bat Boy wasn't too far off.

This morning, I awoke with a start. I looked at the clock: 9:12 (Rachel's clock is 15 minutes fast).

There was a perfect moment of crystallized half-awake terror.

My thought processes: Oh dear god. 9:12. My first class starts at 9. Oh my god, Computer Science. MY MIDTERM!

Then: Wait... I'm not taking Art History anymore. My first class starts at 11, not 9.

Then: Oh. Today is Thursday, not Friday. My first class starts at noon. My midterm is tomorrow. Everything is okay.

I'd love to go to sleep for an extra two hours, but evil workmen are playing with chainsaws RIGHT OUTSIDE MY WINDOW. Gah, what else do they need to do, other than planting grass? I thought the construction was more-or-less finished! Aaaaarg.

Dear Ralph Nader,

You are not electable. Your 2004 election bid will do nothing but take away votes that would otherwise be going to the Democratic candidate. By running, you are increasing the chance Bush will be reelected. Take your campaign money and give it to a worthy charity. Or plant some trees. It would certainly make a bigger positive difference than what you're trying now.

Liberally Yours,

Of course, Mr. Crotty may have to be violently assassinated because the extra credit question WASN'T ON THE TEST. *deathmaimbitestabkill* I wrote the answer on the answer sheet anyway. Those five extra points are MINE. I more than deserved them. *seethe*

For those curious, the numbers were not a part of a mathematical sequence at all, but the stops on the Philadelphia Market-Frankford subway line. Tricksy, FALSE hobbitses!

Also good news: Amy is back from her vacation! Amy is my advisor and the most wonderful person in the universe. I showed her pictures of my Nightcrawler costume and the Remus CG and she was floored. Merriment!

Other fun things: In my Songwriting class, Ari and I kept giggling over the nerdiest things possible. It started with the Star Wars Gangsta Rap, then spiraled into snorking at the songs another of the guys brought in, as the beginning of the verses sounded like the intros to "Look Down" and "Master of the House" from Les Mis. I love finding nerd-theatre geek hybrids!

So my day is going well, wouldn't you say? Until I stepped into Starbucks after class and the Baristas told me that Tazoberries had been permanently discontinued.

My life no longer holds purpose.

*spazzes* From TOR.n: (Re: RotK soundtrack)
5. The Steward of Gondor (3:53)

After our grand introduction to the last citadel of man, the action likely turns to Gandalf and Pippin as they seek and audience with Denethor, the surly Steward of Gondor and father to both Faramir and the late Boromir. The faintly rolling drums of war are here again, backing at first a staid reading of the Gondor theme, then a soaring string passage.

Then, a surprising solo vocal takes center stage. Billy Boyd (as Pippin) sings a pretty, folkish tune regarding his apprehension about the situation he has found himself in. As mentioned before, it is these strange and adventurous musical choices that really begins to set the CD for Return of the King apart from the previous two Rings score releases.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

BILLEH!!!

MY ROOMMATE ROCKS MY SOCKS!

<333333 Rachel! She took pictures of me in my Kurt costume for her photography class, and she printed the first one today! And it PRODS SEVENTEEN DIFFERENT KINDS OF BUTTOCK.

Click!

I look slightly bucktoothed, but I care not. This one is DEFINITELY my favourite. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Ooh! I found one more pic of me as Kurt. Probably my personal favourite, in fact, except for the scary, messed-up hair. It reminds me of the initial publicity shots of Nightcrawler, where Alan was trying to look as frightening as possible, but ended up looking like he was trying to dislodge peanut butter stuck to his gums. I ♥ Alan.

Clicksie!

(and was anyone else amused at how layout!Kurt seemed to be looking directly at Invincible!Alan before this entry was posted? I was.)

My math teacher is an EVIL, EVIL, EVIL GOON FROM HADES but I have overcome regardless! ::cackles::

I AM INVINCIBLE!

I shall not reveal the solution here, in case one of my classmates finds this blog Googling for the answer, as I often find that Cult of Lincoln comes up surprisingly often and high-up on search results.

Evil, evil, EVIL man! Tricksy hobbitses.

(Ooh, in celebration of my invincibility, let's see some more Boris!Alan. Yay, Yay, and Yay! He is TOO CUTE FOR WORDS. <33333)

Wah. This year's calendar is pretty much officially cancelled. We'll still be selling prints, but the four of us are so busy that even a miracle would not grant us the ability to finish 11 more images in a month. We'll try again next year, I guess.

Have any of you Smart Folks encountered a finite series that begins with 2, 5, 8, 11, 13, 15 and ends with 69? If we can identify it, we get an extra 5 points on our midterm this Monday. Apparently, it was featured in a movie that takes place in the early 1940's (1942?)

Mr. Crotty lives to torture us. T3H W03.

EDIT: SOLVED! GO ME!

Whee! Five hours until The Matrix!

Of course, word on the street is that it sucks and it's not worth the price of admission, but I care not. (I'm not listening, la la la...)

Maybe if I go in with decreased expectations, I'll think it's awesome.

Even funnier than "Agent Smith for President"! And so ridiculous that I would have thought this had come from a Liberal source making fun of Conservatives, not straight from the elephant's mouth.

Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

NO WAY!!!!!!!! The Bridge, my lovely local theatre, is participating in Trilogy Tuesday! PLEASE make it not be sold out...

EDIT: Too good to be true. I double checked in a bunch of places, and it looks like I was wrong. Bah.

TEH W03. I misread the website for my local theatre, and Matrix opens tomorrow morning, not midnight tonight. Wah.

I am a t00b. Looking at Kell's LotR goodness (see previous post), I suddenly realized "Hey! If I'm going to see LotR at midnight tonight, I'd better get a makeshift costume ready! Hmm... I could wear my kickass boots and that nifty shirt and-- gah, I'd better hurry and get all the blue gunk off those elf ears!"

And then I realized that it's not LotR, it's The Matrix. *is stupid*

Wah. My first alarm didn't go off this morning, so although my second alarm went off and I won't have any problems getting to class on time, I didn't get the sensation of "Ha, my alarm just went off, but I can press the snooze button and sleep for 30 more minutes!"

So much woe. *is so spoiled*

::squeaks::

Okay, back to feeling special again. I hadn't even really been aware of it, but my feelings of self-worth as an actress and singer went down quite a bit when I didn't make the cut of the A Cappella and Theatre groups I tried out for earlier this year. But today, all has been restored. In my Songwriting class, Prof. Weesner was comparing a piece of funk music with Coldplay with Schubert's Gretchen am Spinnrade, and the guy next to me, Rob(?), turned to me and whispered "Which one was Gretchen?" I offhandedly sang the first two lines (in my exquisitely pronounced German, ha), and he said, in a tone of great respect, "You have such a good voice."

It caught me by surprise, as I barely even knew the guy and I didn't think my mini-performance was that impressive, as I was trying to sing opera under my breath as not to disturb the class.

Come to think of it, I think this was the guy who asked "When will we see this on Broadway?" when I sang "Whatever Happened to Honor" in class.

Just goes to show what goes on when you think no one's paying attention.

It's never a good sign when your response to a math problem is "This problem violates the laws of physics."

It's mildly reassuring your classmates agree.

Maybe if I ignore it, it'll go away.

Ah, feeling another of those "So grateful I went to Hockaday" moments, as I needed to look up some random Physics equation for my Math class, and there it was, on the Hockaday Physics Website. I don't have to scavenge my hall for a textbook or the internet for a list of equations!

And aww, look at what else I found! I'm so proud of my girls! 5th place, booyeah!

My hall is so nice sometimes. Chris is testing out the whole "Mozart for the Mind" theory, so he downloaded a bunch of Mozart and Beethoven and awesome classical music, and he's playing it in the common area as we all study. And my room is right next to the common area, so Rachel and I are seranaded with lovely music. Currently, Beethoven's 9th. Keen.
