Winter Formal. It wasn't as fun as Homecoming, but I still enjoyed myself. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the key from Carolyn, so I wasn't able to take everyone across the street to my photography show, which was disappointing, but oh well. My friends have realized how important this was to me, so they've resolved to find a time where we can all check it out. Yay.
We all met at Hockaday, but Matt and I had to leave for the restaurant earlier, as he was forbidden by his parents from driving on any highways. I figured out how to get us to the restaurant without use of maps, using my Mad Directional Skillz, and we ended up arriving at almost the same time as the others, despite the others leaving about 10 minutes after us. Hurrah for averaging 35 mph! Anyway, the food was good, and was brought by intelligible waiters that used slightly worrying phrases such as "If any of you gentlemen are craving a meaty dish." I have no idea how they managed to run up the bill so high on us, as we each ended up having to pay $54, when our entrees each cost about $15. I know the gratuity would be sky-high, and the appetizers and deserts probably contributed, but it seems rather exhorbitant to me. Matt tried to pay for me, but he didn't bring a credit card, so I assured him that he got Chivalry Points anyway. Then we were off to the Info Mart, which does not sound like the venue for a school dance, and more like a computer store. We milled about, fraternizing with various people, and generally reiterating the exact same conversation 20+ times. All the linguistic finesse one requires to survive a Winter Formal: "Hi, I'm _____." "This is _____." "You look so pretty!" Grk. But we ran into Ira, the Moldovan girl in my AP Physics C and PE classes, and Matt and I talked to her about Zdob zi Zdub, the Moldovan band Matt's Moldovan friend Xandu introduced us to. I told her I'd bring my CD to Physics class so that we could groove. T'was amusing. Matt wasn't feeling up to par, as he's been sick most of last week, so we decided to skip the movie (TTT) and leave. I look forward to the next dance, where Matt and I will hopefully go in duct tape attire. Good stuff. Snow update: Big flakes, now! And it's sticking to the grass, sort of!
