Got back from New York Comic Con late last night! It was sooooooo fun, but I am sooooo exhausted. Setting up a meeting with my advisor at 10am the next morning was stupid beyond belief. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I posted a lot of costume- and Dresden-related pictures here, plus a little bit about meeting Jim Butcher and Paul Blackthorne here. Full con report coming after I sleep for a week, waking up briefly to take the Midterm From Hell on Wednesday and write a paper for Friday. Heeee! I am the world's biggest dork. Over the summer, I interned at an animation studio called Reel FX and worked on a religious/educational kids' show called Boz. The DVD of the first episode I worked on arrived in the mail today, and though I won't get a chance to look through it until I get back from NY Comic Con, I just totally geeked out when I saw that the silly little toy hammer I modeled was on the cover of the DVD. It's a random prop, but it's MY random prop! Man, I'm going to be obnoxious when I'm actually in the industry, going to see movies I worked on with friends...

Edit: Feeling a bit more comfortable now that I have donned socks and a sweater, cranked up the thermostat, and raided roommate's stash of chocolate pudding. I sense this is a violent physical reaction to my terror of a looming computer science assignment from last semester that must be completed for me to graduate in two months. My body is FANTASTIC at this. While washing dishes before treating self to pudding, was idly asked by contacts-removing roommate if I ever wished I went to art school rather than doing DMD.  I'm currently investigating as to whether it's fake. I don't want to do anything that might jinx this spontaneous wellspring of good luck in the eyes of the Gods of Spite, but I also don't want to get taken for a sucker. Edit: Curses. I can't verify it either way yet, but I have a sneaking (okay, less sneaking and more clomping around in hobnailed boots) suspicion that someone is trying to fleece me. Also, the guy emailed me back saying my price is $120, which NO WAY am I going to pay. I contacted eBay security and they're going to look into it. I'll keep you guys updated. At least my wig looks cute, if totally inaccurate. And hey, I've already found a way to use my super-connected ninja fan powers to get a normal copy of the book in just over two weeks--nearly a month before street date. You are a human hair wig. You are porous. BLEACH LIKE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO.
The strongest bleach at the store has been on the wig for over four hours when it's only supposed to take like 45 minutes to get a dramatic change, and AAAARG why didn't I buy the blond wig even though I didn't like the cut, because at least then I know I could have dyed it properly and I'd end up with the appropriately Molly-esque cotton candy pink and blue colors instead of the mud I'm probably going to end up with now? Now I just have to start studying like a mad thing for my SciFi exam a week from today. The "sample questions" the professor gave us made my head explode. Good gravy, the DETAIL! I'm reminded of my junior year of high school, where we would read a massive chunk of Huck Finn, and Mr. Dumaine would ask us a long series of the most random questions imaginable, like "what color was this person's hat that was only mentioned once in passing." So the wireless internet in my dorm was down for SEVEN HOURS today. And I have a midterm tomorrow, and because we have no official textbook, all the study materials were online. So rather than getting started studying at about 3pm, my hands were tied until shortly after 10. I kind of want to scream and throw things. Fortunately, the midterm is open-notes, so hopefully I'm not doomed.

EEEEEE! A friend of mine who is Connected Liek Woah just hooked me up with the 67-minute cut of the unaired pilot of The Dresden Files, and I have to leave in five minutes to teach a 2-hour tutorial on making a Demo Reel in After Effects. I LOVE YOU, UNIVERSE, but your timing could be better!

More from the Half-Hour News Hour. I think I had a dream like this and woke up in a cold sweat. So... how is this political satire? Or even a parody of the news? I'm reminded of the "President Al Gore" SNL sketch, except that was actually funny and delightfully self-deprecating.
I can't see how the Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coulter sketch would be funny at all, except as a horrific morality tale or self-deprecatingly like Al Gore, though I can't imagine a twit like Limbaugh or a lunatic like Coulter being self-deprecating. Ease the pain by checking out the Official Site for Oshawa's Stephen Colbert Day. In other TV news, House was picked up for a fourth season, and BSG was picked up for 13 episodes of a fourth season, with the possibility of extending it full-length. Sweeeeet. On the other polar opposite of hilarity, someone posted a clip from Fox's neo-con wannabe Daily Show, The Half-Hour News Hour. Painfully unfunny (the funniest aspect is how canned the laughter sounds, though I admit the "plummeting approval ratings" was amusing) and unabashedly political. There are so many hilarious and fun-poke-worthy things about the left, and they start with Barack Obama? Wow, no agenda here! Edit: What the hell? This is being aired on FOX NEWS, not regular-Fox. The Daily Show is aired on BASIC CABLE, after a show about genetic freaks that form a squad of superheroes. How on earth can Fox justify airing this on a NEWS channel? Oh, right. Because they're completely soulless, and someone accidentally left a bar magnet next to their moral compass. I don't even know why I was surprised. So we were assigned partners for our Computer Modeling and Animation final project, based on our skillset. I was partnered with the girl who, though a competent coder, had never used Maya before. On the one hand, how flattering! Warren (the TA) must have a high opinion of my Maya skills! On the other hand, CRAP.
Fortunately, Warren later conceded and let us swap partners, and I'm now in a group of three: me, the aforementioned girl, and Matt, leader of our Siggraph chapter and generally cool guy. Win! In my Sci-Fi class this week, we read Burroughs' A Princess of Mars and Gernsback's Ralph 124C 41+. I think this week's theme is "hero protagonists I wish would die in a fire." So. *cackles* So much love for all the ridiculous similarities between The Dresden Files and Psych. As I pointed out before, both series already have a smartass private detective with apparent supernatural abilities, brought in as a police consultant by a blonde cop named Karen. But in tonight's episode? Juliette wears a necklace remarkably similar to TV Murphy's. I am so easily entertained. There was a brief island of squee earlier this week when I bid on an Advance Reader's Copy of the next Dresden book, White Night. I knew going in that there was no way I was going to get it, because in the past they've always sold for over a hundred bucks (which I wouldn't pay even if the book was printed on solid gold. Well, okay, maybe then). Still, there was a lovely nine hours last Sunday when I could pretend it was mine. 7 weeks to go! (Edit: the auction just ended, and it went for $192.50. Some people have too much money.) I got out of the dorm more this week, despite the bitter cold. During the month of February, Penn has a series of events for the seniors almost every night, collectively called "Feb Club." Tuesday night, a group of friends and I went to the trendy, pan-Asian restaurant Pod for drinks. We each had one, over the course of an hour, and I was amused that I wasn't even tipsy, unlike some of my friends. I've never had enough alcohol at one time to actually get drunk, and I was curious to see if I'd inherited my mom's lightweightedness, but I guess not! I'll still be very careful until I figure out exactly how my body reacts to alcohol, though, because I am not an idiot. Thursday, I went to Ko's play, which was utterly hilarious. It was put on by the English department, and it was a series of three scenes from different plays, on the theme of unrequited love. Ko played a housewife having an affair, and she gave what was easily the funniest performance in the show (well, with the exception of Professor Rachetti, who played a Puck character through all three, and was brilliant). Ko wins! Last night, I saw The Vagina Monologues (also known as The Hoohah Monologues among conservative idiots), which was excellent. Sterling performances all around: some hilarious, some insightful, some devastating. So apologies for not posting in forever. Here, have some funny stuff! Oh my good gravy. Sannali, I thank your mother on bended knee for the best Rice Krispie Treat recipe in world history. The "Heart-Healthy" version they're sticking on boxes nowadays can bite me, because MAN that's delicious.
Sannali's Mom's Recipe of Deliciousness: 16 oz marshmellows 9 cups cereal Whole stick of butter I also added M&M's minis to the mix. Due to creative differences, Joss is no longer attached to the Wonder Woman project. Suckage.
At least that gives him more time to work on Goners and Runaways and the Buffy season 8 comic and stuff, but... no, there's no way to positively spin this. It's just lame. After Serenity's lackluster box office performance, see if he ever gets tapped for a major motion picture again. Now how soon can the fandom get a hold of the script? I cheer myself slightly with the news that a helpline for distressed Potter fans is being set up, because two characters will be killed off in the final installment. Too funny! So the last Harry Potter book is coming out a week after the Order of the Phoenix movie? Isn't that kind of silly? Oh well. July 21st, kids!
