GUH. Just started adding the mohair to the Maeve wig, and it looks awesome! Ooh, I wish I'd gone with mohair entirely rather than starting with the Point Five. It looks so much more dreadlock-y and awesome, all felted to itself. Inspired by this look, I'm gently untwisting and separating the Point Five, then re-twisting it in chunks with a few strands of mohair to make it look a bit more dread-y. It looks way better already! Squeeeee, one week until PhauxCon!

Originally, I'd been planning to watch only a select few, let my flist determine the winners of the shows I didn't watch, then play catch up with those that made the cut.
Journeyman didn't really grab me, mostly because I kept comparing it unfavorably to the extraordinary Life on Mars. It certainly has promise, but unless my flist convinces me otherwise, I won't be watching. I haven't gotten around to watching the aired version of Bionic Woman, but it's waiting for me when I get home. I watched the first five minutes of Moonlight and had to change the channel. Returning shows: Heroes returns with a bang, and if Hiro doesn't end up beoming Kinsei, I'll eat my Fangirl Card. I saw this coming from the first time we saw that painting of Kinsei in Linderman's collection and I noticed that he had the same facial hair as Future Hiro. And Will thought I was mad, HAH! Not sure what to call Mohinder's new friend. Has the fandom come up with a nickname yet? My top contenders are "Mister Midas" and "The Alchemist." House was absolutely hilarious. I just had the second most amazing burger in the universe. The first, of course, is from Jack's Burger House in Dallas. But... *Homer Simpson donut-lust noise.* Wow. Burger. In less gastronomic news, today we had photos taken for the soon-to-be-launched Launch website, which will actually have (gasp) content! You'll finally be able to see some of the stuff I've been working on these past months! Joe had a very professional lighting setup, and as a result, I felt like America's Next Top Model. I hope I can snag some of the rather gorgeous pictures Joe took for my own fiendish purposes, because daaaaang, I pretty today! Yeah, I'm feeling good. I have no idea why these look so desaturated. You totally lose the cool, subtle blue-green glow of the wig hair! And the pinkish yarn is actually closer to a dark beige. They looked fine in photoshop! Ah well. I currently have about a third of the head wool-ized, though I'll be going back and adding more of the blue-purple-black yarn in the lower layers to get the general color range a bit closer to the intended vibe. The other side is still the wig hair only, without the added woolly goodness.

I think I qualify for having the Weirdest Day Before 9:30 AM.
Sangita, my roommate, had to work late last night and didn't get home until 2. Therefore, she planned to go in late to work this morning, so we wouldn't be walking together as we usually do, as we work a block away from each other. My rockin' new Docs arrived from Zappos last night, and I decided to wear them to work to break them in. However, I didn't want to give myself blisters, I decided to take the bus rather than walking the .8 miles to the nearest subway stop. The bus seemed to be going more slowly than usual, so I decided to get off at Union Square rather than at the more direct 6th and 14th stop and take the N/R/Q/W rather than the F/V, which might shave a few minutes off my overall time. And after this barrage totally uncharacteristic transportation decisions, who did I randomly end up standing next to on the subway? Maura Walsh, my best friend in middle school, who I hadn't seen since she moved to Boston after 8th grade. It turns out we live and work only a few blocks away from each other, and we're both in advertising! Weeeeeeeiiiiiird. Priscilla said at 10:07 AM Some Maeve pics!
The hair dye job! This is the only shot I could get the colors to look reasonably accurate. It's much lighter than one might expect from her description in the book to compensate for the darker colors of wool I'll be adding in. Anyway, it looks so cool in real life! When it's in shadow, the sea green practically glows. My nails afterwards, AFTER scrubbing at them for five minutes. First progress shot of the dreads and some wool added in, taken Sunday evening. I dyed my Maeve wig this morning, and ZOMG GORGEOUS. It's currently a blend of pale blue, delicious sea green, and the base white.

 He, actress Thandie Newton, director David Schwimmer, and screenwriter Michael Ian Black entered to riotous applause, then were seated while a representative from the theatre talked about the film and upcoming events at the theatre. My heart leapt when Simon randomly looked at me, grinned hugely, and waved. Stunned, I waved back, heart elated with fangirl glee. Then mid-wave, I realized he was actually waving at the girl next to me, who turned out to be the Moderator for the Spaced-Out Forum. Dork, thy name is Priscilla! When he was finally introduced, he got up and stood on his chair like Roberto Benigni winning an Oscar. It was clear from the levels of applause and catcalling that the audience was mostly there to see him! However, when he tried to get back down, his foot got stuck in the chair, to great hilarity. The movie was so much fun. Simon once again proved his genius at physical comedy--his facial expressions and mannerisms had us rolling on the floor. He put so much heart into the role! I'm so frustrated with the American distributor for delaying the US release until MARCH. Seriously, MARCH? It came out September 7th in the UK, and it's topping the box office! LAME. I'm so lucky that they didn't change the date of this preview screening! Originally, it was supposed to be only a week or so in advance. After the movie, they held a Q&A. A Highlight included Simon labeling the film a "slacker romance," or "slomance," which put me in the mind of his name for Shaun of the Dead's genre, "romantic zombie comedy," or "romzomcom." The lowlight was an obnoxious woman who kept spouting off stupid, nonsensical questions without being called on, eating into the time limit for the Q&A session. Booo, crazy woman! Following up the Q&A was an impromptu signing, then a reception. When my turn came along, rather than ask a stupid question, I just told him how much I loved SotD and HF and how I appreciated that he was taking genres he loved and bringing something new and unique to them, as so much of the movie industry seems completely soulless. I actually spoke in coherent, eloquent sentences! I win! This fangirl is growing up. In sum, FANTASTIC evening! I just met Simon Peeeeeeegg! And he's such a sweetheart and utterly hilarious in person. See him in Run Fatboy Run when it comes out!
My camera was nearly out of batteries, so Kevin took pictures for me. I'll post them as soon as he sends them to me. I also got autographs from him, Thandie Newton, and David Schwimmer, and I'll scan them when I get my apartment a bit better situated. :D More when I'm not zzzzzsleepy from sque! And wow, I'm so sleepy I can't even spell "squee"! I wonder what "sque" is. Imaginary cookies to whoever comes up with the best definition. Woohoo! We got cable this morning! Sangita and I inaugurated our enormous, gorgeous new TV by watching the last few minutes of The Addams Family Values, which I hadn't seen since it first came out in '93. I laughed my head off when I recognized Mercedes McNabb, who played Harmony on Buffy and Angel, and David Krumholtz, who played Mr. Universe in Serenity, as the two main campers. Then an ikkle wee Christina Ricci as Wednesday and Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester and a cameo by Nathan Lane... hilarity.
Then I picked up a wireless router and hooked it up this afternoon, so finally our apartment has dependable internet! Then I stopped by the Apple store and bought an external hard drive so I can back my stuff up and finally transfer all the stuff from my old laptop to the new. And the gorgeous Colinette yarn I bought online for my Maeve wig arrived today, so woo, aaallll kinds of accomplishments today! I can't wait to start putting it together. I love having such an intense work week, as it motivates me to get a lot accomplished over the weekend, which makes me feel great about myself. So! Catching up.
I'm almost done with living out of suitcases! My last piece of furniture, a chest of drawers, will arrive this Sunday. This past weekend, I gained a desk, a headboard, a bookshelf, and a massive TV and a lovely dinner table for the common room. WIN! While I wasn't waiting for stuff to get delivered this weekend, I was tromping up and down the city looking for clothes and ideas for a new costume. A new costume! I have a goal! Time has meaning! For PhauxCon's McAnally's Costume Shindig, I'm going as Maeve, the Winter Lady from The Dresden Files. Ever since I first read her description in Summer Night, I've longed to make her costume, and now I'm going to! The chief draw is the wig I'm going to make: "Her hair had been bound into long dreadlocks, each of them dyed a different shade, ranging from a deep lavender to pale blues and greens to pure white, so that it almost seemed that her hair had been formed from glacial ice." *gurgles* I just got the base wig last night--waist-length and white with long bangs--and it's so pretty that I almost feel bad that I'm going to dred the heck out of it. Ah well! It's going to be aaaaaawesome when it's done! I bought three skeins of gorgeous Colinette wool yarn, dyed just the way I picture Maeve's hair to be: one, two, and three. Her general attire is a bit skankier than I want to play her, so it'll be a challenge to design a new outfit for her. I found a gorgeous, subtly shiny, ice-blue pashmina wrap that I'm going to pin strategically to a bra and wear like a draped, toga-ish top. Not sure how to better explain it, but it looks fantastic. As for the bottom... no clue. Massive combat boots or tall Doc Marten-y type boots are a must, because that's just the kind of Then there will be white/silver mascara and crazy eye makeup and maybe some sort of body painting involved, depending on how much time I'm going to have to get ready. Speaking of PhauxCon, today is the last day of Early Bird Registration! After midnight tonight, the price will go up from $50 to $60. Then after October 4th, any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $70. Registration is also open for Friday's dinner with Jim and Shannon Butcher and Sunday's writers' brunch. I have the best job ever. As a thank-you for us staying so late Monday and Tuesday (I stayed until 2 and 1:15, respectively), they said we could come in at 11 this morning. I slept 10 hours last night and took the most decadent bath in the history of the universe, then I went for a walk because I feel like I've been losing a little weight lately and wanted to encourage this, then I returned all the books to the library that I'd finished but hadn't gotten a chance to return.

Madeline L'Engle died. I just now found out, as I'm quite behind on my flist.
Did you know I included farandolae in a 5th grade project on cells, because I didn't realize she'd made them up? Will pointed out that I've neglected to mention the release of Many Bloody Returns, an anthology of short stories dealing with vampires and birthdays. It officially came out yesterday, though I managed to snag a copy from Borders last week. Jim Butcher has a Dresden Files story included, and it's hilarious. Check it, yo!

That was one of my favourite parts of the pilot! As one of my best online friends is deaf, I wanted to see how they treated it in a mainstream TV show. Then they could use the bionically-enhanced stuff to comment on modern viewpoints on disability and maybe raise awareness, and ARGH. Why does TV need yet another dime-a-dozen, perky, hot hacker chick when they could have actually done something with significance?
I'll tune in to the first couple eps when they air, as the pilot looked quite promising, but this kind of decision leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Ah well, not like I needed yet another TV show to watch this fall. I watch enough TV already.
