Priscilla says "Yo". I just called the College Board hotline thingy and found that I got a 1480 on my SATs. 720 Verbal (97th percentile) and 760 Math (98th percentile). Good lord, I'm in a good mood. Now I actually stand a chance at all those luvverly colleges I spent Spring Break visiting... ::hearts Penn:: Yes, hearts go out to the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell. Hearts go out to my daddy, who is working through "Feet of Clay", and my mom, who is reading "Men at Arms". I'm dredging up the Harry Potter family tradition, and I'm reading "Guards! Guards!" aloud. Too much fun. "Grabthroat Shinkicker" gets me every time. Yes, I am five years old.

Continuing this dispensing of hearts, hearts also go out to:
  • my rockin sorta-aunt Phyllis (my dad's cousin. anyone know the proper name for that?), who we got to hang out with last night
  • Monica, for providing me with a plethora of gorgeous art to feast my eyes on upon my return to the internet
  • Alicey, for updating HP Monthly, and also for providing me with nifty art
  • Faith, too. Art. Yum.
  • Jia Ling, for giving me this link (or preferably, this link).
  • Everyone else. I'm leaving to so see "Ice Age". I'll finish this entry and such later.

  • Priscilla said at 6:26 PM

Good gracious, look at those last two entries. I sound like a grandmother. Too much (fill in the blank) in the world today. Am I waxing philosophical? Or have I just not gotten enough sleep?

Flush fat right out of your system! You can control hair loss! Toner cartridges! All roads lead to Hawaii! A lenten letter to the diocese of Jerusalem! Free XXX Passwords! Make Money in your spare time!

I have a love/hate relationship with junk mail. It's so annoying, yet it amuses me all the same. Another thing that really amuses me is when people are offended by my Mary Sue Litmus Test. Or when they actually take the precise scoring seriously. Everyone takes stuff too seriously nowadays. Crazy, man.

Yay! God loves me. I have been blessed with 30 minutes (now about 17... drat my time management skills!) of internet time as we wait for our scheduled taxi thing to pick us up to go to the airport. I'm at Cornell right now, after a rather nifty day of admissions people drooling over my photography and CGs (Vimes and the Alicey dragon collab) and showing me the most eye-wateringly gorgeous example of high-tech in the universe. I can't wait until I get to college -- the digital field is even greater and more captivating than I could have ever imagined. I also got to spend some time in the college store as my mom bought a handspring palm pilot thingy, ogling various examples of computer software. The janitors will have to bring in a mop.

Anyway, it was just today (and last night) that I spent at Cornell. The previous two nights, I was in New York city. Go me! We saw the new "Forbidden Broadway", which was beyond nifty. ::hearts FB:: A longer review will follow, because my mom is trying to yank me off the computer. Curses! Evidently, we need to be there 10 minutes early instead of about 3, as I originally hoped.

Let's just say this: both Best Picture and Best Director to "A Beautiful Mind"? What were you thinking?!? ::pokes the Academy with a stick::

"Hooray, horray for the spinster's sister's daughter."*

I've finished all that I can for Monica's top-secret project. Mon, check your email. I need that last part as soon as possible, so that I have the opportunity to possibly finish during the school day. Gah, life is crazy.

*Random line from "Guards! Guards!". Gotta love those secret societies.

Oh, hell. I just realized that I have to finish the Top Secret Project tonight. I'll be off on college visits all next week, returning in the afternoon on the 31st. Think you can send me the last part early this afternoon, Monica? Yeep. Crud, and I still have to pack and study for an English unit test... Good thing that I got this P.E. period off...

Muaha, I love Kabalarians. I remember visiting one day in school when I was bored out of my mind, looking up all the names I could think of. To my shock and horror, it featured entries for "Angua", "Carrot", "Gytha", and "Magrat". "Nobby", even. I knew something funny was going on when I found an entry for "Rincewind". Still fun, though. Muah!

(note: this entry was a whole lot longer, but IE started acting froofy and crashed. I didn't feel like trying to remember and retype everything I had written, so you guys are just going to have to cope)

Hurrah, happy birthday to Nancy! Everyone gathered at my house at 9, and... well, everyone was supposed to gather at my house at 9. Mackenzie arrived at 9, then we spent the next hour walking aimlessly about my house, talking about random stuff. Finally, around 10, Nancy arrived, toting her new guitar (a birthday present from her parents). Before she arrived, Mackenzie and I turned off the lights and unlocked the door. As Nancy approached the door, Mackenzie hid and I opened the door, quickly hiding behind it. The effect was like that of a haunted castle in a horror movie. Just fabulous! The door swings open... no one is there... much fun. We tried the same effect when Chungy arrived 10 minutes later, but she was not fooled. She ran into the house frantically, screaming about her steaming car. Something's messed up in her radiator. After dealing with such problems, we went to Blockbuster (seranaded by the second Moulin Rouge soundtrack -- go me!) to rent some movies. I was really wanting to see "Atlantis" again, as they were playing the movie on all 70 thousand screens at the Virgin Megastore when my dad and I went CD shopping earlier, but I didn't let on. I was trying to think of some cunning way to suggest it, such as "Hey, 'The Emperor's New Groove' is such an amusing movie, let's watch something animated!". Right as I was about to open my mouth, Chungy shouts "Let's watch 'Atlantis'!". Much amusement. In addition to "Atlantis", we also picked up "Fight Club" and "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels". About 10 minutes into "Atlantis", Marcelina arrived. Christine arrived about 30 minutes after that. Hurrah! I got much amusement out of occasionally referring to Milo as "Percy".

    Highlights of Atlantis:

(when we see the Atlanteans for the first time)
    Marcelina: Who is that?
    Me: Princess Mononoke!

    (upon meeting the crew)
Me: Aw, a ship full of token minorities.

(after the attack from the Leviathan)
Marcelina: Wait! Is the Russian guy all right?
Me: He's an established character and he has a name. He can't die!
Nancy: It's not like he's a redshirt or anything.

    (when Kida walks on water)
    Marcelina: It's Jesus!
Chungy: It's not Jesus, Jesus was cooler than that!
Nancy: Oh, I'm not so sure about that.
Chungy: He could heal the sick!
Me: She healed his Harry Potter scar...
Chungy: He healed a blind man!
Marcelina: She could heal her daddy!
Me: Yeah, and Jesus didn't look that good in a bikini.
Chungy: She looks like a.... a loose woman!
Me: Yeah? And Jesus hung out with prostitutes, so there.

After that, we watched "Fight Club", which was a heck of a lot better than I thought it would be. The filmography at the beginning was awesome. From the previews, I thought it was going to be idiotic, so I was pleasantly surprised. Hurrah! I understand so many more inside jokes now. Last year, some of the Bio students had to write an essay: "I am Joe's cell". ::snickers:: Also, one of the questions in a fill-in-the-blank online quiz thing was "Do you know what a duvet is?". Oh, I feel intelligent now. Go me! Anyway, Nancy, Marcelina, and Christine had to leave after "Fight Club", so it was down to just me, Chungy, and Mackenzie. I went to sleep while they watched the third movie. Anyway, a merry time was had by all. Good stuff. Yay!

Yayfun! A highly successful opening, if I do say so myself. Two and a half hours, basking in ebullient praise. Does life get any better? Plus, Chad was there! Good Percy, I haven't seen him in nearly a year. Good stuff. And even better, I sold one of my images! The blue cross* -- $175. Go me! I can't wait to drag the rest of my friends over. Quite fun. So it's all good. Yay!

    * Actually, I just realized that I had scanned this backwards! I'll post a corrected version (the actual professional scan, as opposed to my pathetic, amateurish version) in a few days.

"The human mind is not capable of grasping the Universe. We are like a little child entering a huge library. The walls are covered to the ceilings with books in many different tongues. The child knows that someone must have written these books. It does not know who or how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. But the child notes a definite plan in the arrangement of the books, a mysterious order which it does not comprehend, but only dimly suspects."

"Lilo and Stitch" sounds awesome, but why is Disney so emphatic about moving away from animated musicals? It seems like the only musicals they're making now are idiotic sequels. The Little Mermaid 2, Cinderella 2, Peter Pan 2, Pocahantas 2, Lady and the Tramp 2, Hunchback of Notre Dame 2, The Lion King 2, Aladdin 2 and 3... good Percy. I adored "The Emperor's New Groove", and I was thoroughly amused by "Atlantis", but this lack of musicalness bothers me. Heck, "Mulan" only had four songs! And "Fantasia: 2000" doesn't count. Are all the little kiddies of today going to grow up without knowing what it's like to experience a brand-new, original, bona fide Disney musical? Absolute rubbish. Give me my musicals, darnit. Life goes on without Howard Ashman.

Bio and Artist Statement. Pain. Death. Help me. ::dies::
Priscilla is a junior at The Hockaday School. Other than photography, her extracurricular interests include drama and musical theatre, cartooning, digital illustration, web design, and robotics. Recently, she played the roles of "Mae" in Hockaday's musical The Pajama Game, "Smitty" in Jesuit's How to Suceed in Business Without Really Trying, and "Emily Brent" in Jesuit's Ten Little Indians. This spring, she will portray "Fabian" in St. Mark's/Hockaday's The Twelfth Night. As a member of the JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society), she and her teammates were inducted into "Who's Who in American High School Students" for their performance in an Engineering competition (TEAMS) on a local and national level. She is Brenda Spencer's daughter, and she takes full credit in bringing her mother deeper into the medium of photography. She intends to study graphic and product design in college. Visit her website at http://www.theninemuses.net/

    Observation

People often claim that they try to "stop and smell the roses", but how many actually are able to do this? In our frantic, bustling, 21st century lives, it becomes difficult to find even small lengths of time to pause and appreciate our surroundings. By setting aside time to photograph during the course of this class, I became not only aware of the beauty of my environment, but also the splendor in the seemingly mundane.
Must expand upon Artist Statement. Growl.

    Bleh. I'm sick.

Yesterday, the JETS got to skip school to attend the regional TEAMS competition. Yay, go us. We had each researched a particular topic (mine was wind chill), and we were all ready to tackle a bunch of terrifying Engineering questions that would make geniuses cringe. We brought a huge stack of textbooks (we held an unofficial, unspoken contest with neighboring tables to see who had the tallest stack) and the traditional baseball bat, which became quite the conversation piece. Anyway, the Hockaday JV team (I was on Varsity) started building up their book stack with random textbooks from their backpacks, such as US History and Huck Finn. I built onto our stack with my sketchbook, American Literature, and Men at Arms. Caroline added Hamlet. Loh came up to our table and asked if we were really planning on using all these textbooks, and Megan responded that we intended to use Hamlet quotes in our essays.

    Megan wrote about hurricanes:

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
    And by opposing end them?
Inspired and amused, I took out my copy of The Twelfth Night. Chungy wrote about noxious chemicals and breadmaking.
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
the appetite may sicken, and so die.
Caroline had a really amusing Hamlet quote for earthquakes, but I can't remember it at the moment. Anyway, while the questions were still esoteric as always, we were able to answer a lot more than we had last year. Go us! We ended up getting 3rd place, so it's all good.

However, Thursday, I had a really sore throat. Yesterday, it started getting worse. By the time TEAMS was over and we were waiting for the bus (we ended up waiting over an hour -- gah), it had progressed to my having an incredibly hoarse voice and excessive drowsyness. Of course, I had Twelfth Night rehearsals afterwards, so I asked Mr. Blaydes if I could go easy on my voice for a day. My voice became dramatically lower in pitch, slightly scratchier, and harder to project. Eventually, my voice sounded so mannish that Darius (a huge thespian and amateur playwright; plays Toby Belch, though he was originally cast as Feste) suggested that we keep Fabian as a boy after all. It was hilarious. Twelfth Night is such an amusing play. At one point, someone suggested that Antonio and Sebastian could be homosexual (in fact, they *were* in the Royal Shakespeare performance I saw last summer), so John (Sebastian) and Benjamin (Antonio) started acting all fruity and such. Then Mr. Blaydes vetoed the idea, and the scene went on normally.

After rehearsals, I went to the Dallas Institute to put up my photography show. It opens on the 15th, ::squeals:: so we put everything up early. If any of you loyal readers happen to be in Dallas, you're most certainly invited. Of couse, by 7 in the evening, I was feeling exhausted and dead, so we had a quick dinner, then saw a quick art show by a high man on the totem pole from Cornell. Muah. Then it was home, and sleep. Hurrah for sleep.

I get to learn how to draw unicorns, goody for me. ::cheers:: It's for the Hockaday Lower School website, and I'll be getting paid, so it's all good. Hanging out in the computer lab during my usual P.E. class is fun! Mr. Hanlon, the Web Design teacher, is instructing his students in the art of being bloody annoying. He makes fun of people who code HTML by hand (hail Notepad!) instead of using Dreamweaver of somesuch, and he encourages popups, mouseovers, eye-harming colors, and excessive Javascript. I like to sit in on his lessons (while doing my own stuff) and just laugh at what he's teaching. Fun stuff.

He's a superhumanly strong vegetarian grifter whom everyone believes is mad. She's a man-hating goth Hell's Angel descended from a line of powerful witches. They fight crime!

I am famous! Feel the thrills, the passion, the drama! Experience the Spinning Stool of Physics!

Note: I'm the girl in pants in the first few pictures in the slow-loading video of doom. See my frizzy Hermione hair!

"Sowter will cry upon't for all this, though it be as rank as a fox." One of Fabian's more intelligible lines, later quoted (in a way) by Foul Ole Ron in "Feet of Clay". "Sowter fry it! Trouser the lot of'em, they did me out of it, them and their big weasel!"

Curse my quote-ridden memory paths! I'm too amused to think of my actual lines. And I just gave myself a papercut under my fingernail. Ouch.

If I had the energy, I'd chew this person out. There are about 5 pages of fanart, practically considered public domain. But I'm in an "immitation is the sincerest for of flattery" mood, and since (s)he kept the signature thingies intact, I really couldn't care less. I'm going to work on my musical-- I mean, my research paper on the history of the musical. ::nods sagely:: Rebecca reminds me that I haven't posted any upbeat stuff, so that's my new priority. Most of the songs are upbeat, anyway. ::ponders strange phenomenon::

::snort:: Reading a copy of "The Twelfth Night". I get to accuse Malvolio of stealing my girlfriend. Oh, this is going to be interesting...

Meanwhile, I just saw a production of "The Winter's Tale" at SMU. T'was nifty. The actress who played Hermione (yes, this play is where JKR got the name) also played Reno in "Anything Goes", so I was amused. Hurrah for the easily entertained! Kinda scary, though. I've gotten to the point where I can't go see a production without imagining how "Men at Arms" could be staged on their set. Of course, it's comparable to envisioning potential photographs in everything I see, or unconsciously studying how light plays off of objects and textures and such for my CGs. Still, it's disturbing. But it's all good, so muah.

    Quotes!

Mr. Taylor: In one day, everything you know doubles!
Girl: Kinda like the Louisiana Purchase!

Mr. Taylor: You might just be the Lewis and Clark of rotational acceleration.

Mr. Taylor: What things can you count on?
    Everyone: The speed of light!
    Me: Your fingers!

Me: She's a ghetto Patty Mayonnaise!
--referring to LeAnn, who we claim sounds just like Patty Mayonnaise, from Doug

Mr. Dubsky: You *must* know this! Otherwise, you cannot buy soda pop at Minyards!
Me: What if we don't like soda pop?
LeAnn: What if we don't shop at Minyards?
Chungy: You call it soda pop?

Mrs. Sancken: We're within fish-tossing distance!

Teacher Lady: God bless the molluscs!

Handout: Behind every new piece of technology, there is an engineer. Behind every engineer, there is a creative mind...
Iana: Behind every creative mind, there is a woman!

::snickers madly:: Just got a letter from Elfwood.
No. No. No. No matter how you put it. Elvis does NOT fit in any fantasy theme.
    That makes my day.

Apologies for not posting the Angua song earlier. My parents seem to be incapable of leaving the house at the same time, leaving me no time to record. Yesterday, I was about a minute into the song when my dad got home. Aaarg! Trying to find time today. ::hisses at parents:: Anyway, I changed the lyrics a bit yesterday, so the annoying bits are no longer annoying and it doesn't seem as repetitive. Go me! Still having issues with key changes... rarg.

    Squee! Sleet!

I just had the weirdest dream. I envisioned "X-Men: The Movie" as a musical. Hilarious stuff. "Men at Arms" must be getting to my head.

Yeep! I just realized that I'm the only junior to get a role in the play! Go me! ::does a little dance:: The rest are all seniors. Well, of the girls, at least. Guys don't count because they're guys. ::grooves::
