Wow, looking through the course catalog for Freshman seminars, I'm even more thrilled about Penn. One class includes a study of Hitchcock, Kubrick, and Luhrman (among others). Another class has as one of its textbooks Harry Potter. I'm in love.

*sigh* I always think that I'm over it and that it doesn't bother me anymore, but whenever I see any of my collabs with Moni credited only to her, I'm always so irked. I need to get over myself. Alas, the hazards of collabbing with fandom divas. XD

Whee, just ordered "The Well of Lost Plots" off Amazon UK, as the literary world is stupid and it's not going to be available anywhere in the US for almost a year. Bah, humbug to evil US snobbery of fabulous UK books. But yay, we thwart their wiles at every turn! Percy bless Amazon UK!

Yes. Definitely glad to be back to all my friends on Y!M. And I'm going with the gang to "A Clockwork Orange" anyway, so all is good. I feel compelled to reread a bit of it beforehand... Man, that's an amazing book.

Wah! After surfing the web on a Mac for two weeks straight, I now find myself looking for the "minimize" etc buttons on the left instead of the right. Curse you, Macintosh! ::shakes fist angrily::

Anyway, as you can see, I'm back. I return to a flood of mail, snail and otherwise, including my AP Art folio, a birthday invite from Renata, and my "Discworld Family Values" Kidby poster (AAAAUGH!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!). W00t to the 00t indeed!

It was funny. When I opened the box containing my folio, I immediately started searching for my grade. I was overwhelmed with glee to see three 5's emblazoned on the coversheet. Fives are the highest possible grade. I squealed with glee and skipped about the room with joy with my parents, exchanging high-fives, until I looked again and realized that the five was under the blank that enumerated the number of original pieces present at each stage of the grading. That wasn't my grade, that was just accounting for the continued existence of my work. Drat. I found this hilarious, though. I sorted through all the paperwork and such and no grade was found, so I called Mrs. McCullough, who told me that the grades were mailed at a different time. Checking the College Board website, I see that they are mailed on July 1st. So I have one more week until I find out my grade! Woo hoo!

Now off to check email and LJ Friends list and suchlike. Renata, I apologize for not RSVPing to your party, as you live in Illinois. XD

Whee! Last night, I was quite possibly the first in the store to acquire a copy of HP5. I was the first at my register (pure, pure luck) out of about 5 or so stations. Spent three hours babysitting kidlets, amusing myself as I figured out how every one of the magician's magic tricks were performed (I had about a 90% success rate), scrutinizing the second edition of David Colbert's "Magical Worlds of Harry Potter" for a correction in the bibliography regarding WIAN (corrected! W00t! I showed this to my friends, who were impressed), and generally flailing about and being silly. Hurrah!

Because I am a Good Girl, I only allowed myself to read the first hundred pages last night, as the photography workshop is still going on and I have full days ahead of me. If anyone posts spoilers, I will officially lay the smackdown. And I hereby promise not to post anything remotely spoilworthy until the fandom generally decides it has been an appropriate time.

So yay.

Tonight, tonight won't be just any night,
Tonight we'll put an end to the wait.
Tonight, tonight, the three years end tonight
And we'll answer each plot point debate.

Today we'll gather all our glasses,
We'll paint scars on our foreheads,
And squeal with such delight

As Borders' cries: Come out and read the book!
See who dies! Tonight!

Wah. Went to a glassblowing workshop yesterday to photograph, but my black and white stuff is rubbish. This must be what Tony refers to as "The Abyss". Bah, feeling depressed. Now clinging tightly to what I hope will be a happy moment today, when I pick up my color rolls at the one-hour photo. Gah, have reverted back to Bridget Jones-speak. Bad sign.

Last night, I dreamed that I got HP5 two hours early, and with a special cover. I liked the official cover a lot more, but I realized that mine would be worth a fortune on eBay, so I decided to keep it. Now waiting (im)patiently for tomorrow midnight to come.

Also, today I will return to the Spa of Doom, Ten Thousand Waves, where I will revisit the Hot Tub From Hell, as immortalized by my epic poem. Will bring a swimsuit this time, and will be ready to prod serious buttock if distubed again by evil pervy males. ::demonstrates her 1337 kung-fu skillz::

Yay, I'm having a generally lovely time in Santa Fe! The morning is great for photography, as there's plenty of sun and lovely shadows and contrast and variety and general prettiness. We've been unlucky about afternoons so far, though. It seems every day, it clouds up horribly and it's rather difficult to get any good black and white. Color, however, is a different story. I shot three color rolls today with no scruples whatsoever, muaha! ::takes the opportunity to cackle fiendishly::

And I've figured out how Keith Carter makes his photographs. Go me!

We got yesterday's negatives back this morning, where I was surprised to find that I had some of my New York photographs on one of the rolls. I printed two images and got a "Hot damn" and a handshake from Tony O'Brien, photographer/god teacher. W00t to the 00t, indeed.

Monday, June 16, 2003

Am now unhealthily obsessed with photographic works of Keith Carter. How does he do it? Hoooowwwww?? ::launches self off cliff::

Meanwhile, all goes generally well. I'm shocked at how strange it feels to be shooting b&w, despite the fact that black and white has been the majority of what I've shot within the last age. I guess Santa Fe is just a "color" city. Wah. Someday soon, I'm going to crack and rebel and shoot nothing but color, color, color and defenestrate* anyone that tries to stop me.

* defenestrate: one of my favourite words, meaning "to hurl out of a window"

Over past 24 hours, have met and befriended two people in high tech fields, including a guy with ties to Lucasfilm and/or Pixar, and a woman that works at Adobe. W00t to the 00t. Also, am quite shocked to see that I am not the youngest person in class, as I had expected. Unsettling. Oh well.

Finished Bridget Jones and am 3/4 finished with sequel. References to Colin Firth in wet t-shirt conjure v. happy memories of watching "Pride and Prejudice" in Anglophilia Club. Mmm. Now aching with every sinew of my body for Friday night, when I--flanked by seven thousand tiny children--will descend as one upon Borders and claw our way to a copy of the fifth Harry Potter. When conversing with Nancy at Borders the other day (before the X2-fest), she informed me that they had received their shipment that day, but all were forbidden a glimpse of what's between the covers. What willpower!

As I was unable to go into detail about our X2-fest the other day, I suppose I should at least mention the New Word Marcelina and I coined. We're quite pleased with it.

schnooglebamf.

or if you prefer,
bamfenschnoogle.

This is a word coined to describe the act of Alan Cumming... or Nightcrawler, whatever... giving someone (i.e., us) a big hug and bamfing us away. Whee! The thought makes us very happy, as Alan Cumming quite schnoogleworthy.

Tra-la!

And that's pretty much it for now.

W00t! Have arrived in Santa Fe, and quite pleased to see that I will have regular internet access if I wish. Huzzah! But LJ is semi-oncrack, due to Demented Mac From Hell, so I won't really be able to see any art you guys produce. Wah. It's not really very fond of having two windows open at once (despite the fact that it's obviously Very New and Snazzy), so LJ-cuts are no longer merry. Alas, woe.

Taking massive quantities of film already. Mmmm, hold me back.

A Good Thing to Do: Go see X2 with a friend as squealishly infatuated with Alan Cumming as you are. Man, our post-movie quasi-meal at Chili's was NUTS.

I'd go into detail, but it's 1:38AM and I have to wake up at an ungodly hour to catch my plane to Santa Fe, where I'll be for two weeks. I'll try to find a place with internet access (withdrawal! wah!), but I have no guarantees.

And yes, I will be revisiting the Spa of Doom immortalized in my Epic Poem. Wah. I wonder if I should bring my copy of "The Hobbit" to add surrealism?

Friday the 13th! OooOo! ::makes ghost-y noises::

Schlien and I watched the first X-Men this morning to prepare her for X2 this evening (now 8PM at the Cinemark, kids). It was lovely to revisit the highly amusing quotes ("This sure is a big, round room.") and now-cheesy-looking special effects that I thought were awesome three years ago.

Quote of the Day: "I really like this whole 'Windblown Jesus' look." --Me, at Blockbuster

Afterwards, I ran seven thousand errands, one of which was at Borders to treat myself for being so good and accomplishing so much. I saw Nancy there (w00t!) and invited her to come along with us to X2. Whee!

And now, more reasons to love humanity.

That's all I have to say about that.

priscilla

I was rather amused by:

alicey

"Are you trying to alicey, bud?"

moni
adj. likely to flirt with marijuana.

Whee! Last night was much fun. Matt invited me, Schlien, Burkhead, Luke, T-Barr, and Meghan for MST3K-watching party. A splendid time was had by all! Great amounts of pizza and ice cream were consumed over the span of the evening as we took minibreaks from The Deadly Mantis ("but I've a mantis in my pantis!") and Hobgoblins ("Whatcha gonna do with those Hobgoblins?"). They didn't seem as funny as other episodes I'd seen, like Puma Man ("Help, I'm falling at 60 degrees and completely violating the laws of Physics!) and Final Sacrifice ("Rosdower!"), but all was still highly enjoyable. w00t! Yay Matt! Thank you for letting us use your lovely bubble-house and terrorize your cat ("There is no cat -- MRRRROW!").

Ugh. Just had a horrible nightmare that I cut my hair to chin-length. Naturally, it was horrible and demented-looking. It was a hideous shade of white-blond, and when I toussled it up to look for a style that would minimize the damage, it turned into yarn, which in the dream reminded me of the hair on a Rainbow Brite doll. Ugh. Think Farscape's Chiana with slightly longer hair, a limp, ineffective perm, on the worst hair day of her life, without spiky hair gel. Anyway, mum was helping me move into the Penn dorm, which was insanely nice, and I found that on my hall were Tina Lalangas (my best friend in 5th grade), Jenny Branson, Tanja, and Carrot, among about 15 faceless others. I shared a dorm with Tina. The first night was an anime cosplay party, so I chose to go as Ed from Cowboy Bebop. As I searched my closet for something suitably androgynous, Mother confusedly hovering over my shoulder, I found in a drawer a giant clown pillow, a marionette of a demented blue dog, and quite a few other "what the hell"s. I eventually found a satisfying-enough outfit and ran off to find Tanja.

Craziness.

Stardust

You are Stardust! You are whimsical, creative, and spirited. You might be seen as naive and foolhardy, which is a little true, but it can also be called bravery. Youre idealistic and people might think youre a little off because you talk about some strange things. You probably love nature, whether its you love animals, nature walks or just admiring it from afar. Youre a creative person and like to write short stories or poems and draw and paint. You have a sly, self-depreciating sense of humor and are a blast to be with because of your adventurous personality.

Which Neil Gaiman book are you?

Dude, this reminds me. I haven't finished Stardust yet! I was reading it, then I misplaced it, so I started reading something else. When I found it again, it had lost its place in the queue. Hmm, maybe when I finish Bridget Jones... I hope I haven't lent it out.
